going by the many awards given and the media's emphasize on him, yes, he is overrated.
Is Freddie Roach overrated?

I think it's his lack of discipline and inexperience.
He tries to be too macho and prove how good his chin is. He leaves himself open so he can throw his ' dazzling ' combinations. But when he boxes behind the jab, he does look a lot better. However, his survival skills/defense worry me the most.
I think the real problem is Roach is being too cautious with Khan. He's taught Khan to run and use movement as a defense and not picking off shots/blocking/parrying etc.
It's obvious to all how 1-dimensional Khan looked when he fought Peterson, he had no answer to him on the inside.Comment

I don't believe that ***** about him "wanting to prove his chin" at all. If that's what he wanted, he wouldn't run so much.I think it's his lack of discipline and inexperience.

He throws those combos because that's what Roach trains him to do. Fight at a ******ly fast past and throw pointless combos with no thought or conviction behind them.
A more suited trainer would have got him to calm down, sit on his punches more etc. The only time Ive seen Khan fight the way he was supposed to was against Malignaggi. I really thought Roach had something there.Comment

Exactly. Cause Roach can't teach a fighter how to defend themselves....I think it's his lack of discipline and inexperience.

A basic defense isn't really that hard to teach and for a trainer that's as good as Roach is I'm sure he'll be able to sort Khan out. Roach trains Khan to spoil on the inside and get the fight back at range where he can use his reach and jab to control the fight.
Try again.

I'd love it if Khan actually "spoiled" on the inside. But he doesn't. He stands there with his gloves beside his ears and watches punches hit him in the face.A basic defense isn't really that hard to teach and for a trainer that's as good as Roach is I'm sure he'll be able to sort Khan out.
