People always say Hatton was Top 5 P4P when Mayweather fought him for some reason.
I think Hatton was a beast at 147 aswell as 140 personally. I wouldn't give Mayweather anymore credit for beating him at 140 than I do at 147.
It's like not giving Whitaker credit for beating Nelson at 135.
I mean, yeah, Hatton didn't look great against Collazo but that's because he's not great. Collzao is one of the best fighters Hatton faced it's no suprise he struggled.Comment

Yeah, means little. Just something to throw in there as a stat but it means little.

there's a reason why he only had 2 fights at 147.
one was a test, one was a money grab. then back down to where he belonged
as far as the professor goes, 2 things:
1) he WAS two small for LW.
2) he's a different fighter than ricky his style allowed him to travel up.
3) azumah was already a PROVEN multi weight champ by then, ricky, not so much.
4) hatton is not equal to azumah on any real level
I'm saying floyd gets less credit than if he fought him at 140, just like pea would have gotten more credit if he could have fought azumah at sfw (different circumstances I know)Comment

it definitely shows that ricky was no world beater at 147 and that he was highly overrated for that fight, cuz some people were actually picking him to beat floyd
if you follow the convo, I was speaking about ricky's pfp ranking at the time, which was waaaaaay too high.
collazo, spaddy, toney, old floyd....all purveyors of my favorite style of boxing.Comment

Collazo is a big, strong guy. Especially at Welterweight.
He would have stayed at 147 had Oscar beat Pacquiao and probably retired at 147.
So really, circumstances are why he only had 2 fights there.

He didn't look too small against Whitaker.
The rest doesn't matter. I'm not comparing Hatton to Nelson, obviously.
I'm saying not giving Mayweather credit for beating Hatton because he was a single weight class higher than his original weight is ******.
Mayweather's naturally smaller than Hatton. Hatton is stronger than Mayweather. He get's almost as much credit for beating him at 147 as he would at 140.Comment

Yea, I never understand why people were picking him to beat Floyd, well I do, but you know what I mean. People said that the weight wasn't right for Hatton and there could be come truth to that, but I think moreso than the weight, he just fought a good fighter in Collazo. I don't think they properly prepared for him, and Hatton and his trainer said that before, if I'm not mistaken.
Stronger than Mayweather.Comment
