He won the H2H matchup, plus he's beaten more quality opponents at Heavyweight.

I always have liked Byrd, great feints and footwork. But he was overmatched against Klitschko.

Which Klitschko? Wlad, yes. Vitali is a notch on Byrd's resume.

Wvald was better at handling boxers like Byrd. Vitali was better at handling the brawlers like Peter.

Chris didnt have the power to keep the big guys from walking through his shots but he had enough speed and reflexes to cause teh older slower brother trouble. He was losing the rounds but getting through them. In the 2nd Wvlad fight Byrd got a beating which wasnt common. Overall I'd say both Klitschkos are better but Vitali should have tried to avenge that defeat

I always have liked Byrd, great feints and footwork. But he was overmatched against Klitschko. Klitschko usually forced himm to retreat to the ropes and caught him quite a few times, although Byrd's elusive body movement made him miss a bit. Byrd was not disgraced, but Klitschko was winning wach round by a big margin.

Klit won most of the rounds, not many would argue against that. But the rounds were very close and Byrd was backing Vitaly up nearly as much as he got backed up despite the huge disadvantages he was at.

Scoring criteria is based on

1. Clean punches
2. Effective aggression
3. Ring generalship
4. Defense

Vitaly landed 8 more punches thru the entire fight and obviously landed the harder punches of the two. Slight advantage to Vitaly in Category one.

While Vitaly only landed 26% of his total punches but he threw nearly twice as many keeping Byrd on the defensive. When Byrd did throw though he landed at 44%, but overall not active enough to win the effective aggression category. Advantage Klitschko.

Byrd moved and did as he pleased either standing in front of Klit or moving out of danger without the ring being cutoff on him and was the more apt of the two to give angles. Vitaly on the other hand was content to move in straight lines both offensively and defensively. Advantage Byrd in ring generalship.

Byrd blocked, ducked and slipped punches making Vitaly land at a career low connect rate and was never visibly hurt in this fight. Advantage Byrd in the defensive category.

Depending on what one prefers, if you favored a defensive fight, an argument could be made Byrd actually won. Myself, I prefer the guy throwing punches looking to make something happen offensively therefore had Vitaly winning the majority of rounds. Anyone trying to claim the rounds weren't close based on the criteria of judging a fight is just foolish though and only choosing to see what the want to see instead of everything that was happening.

This fight shouldn't be considered when discussing a Vitali-Ali fantasy fight. Byrd and Ali fight NOTHING alike.

It's called a robbery, pal. They exist in boxing. It was either that, or incompetent judging. But i lean towards it being the former than the latter considering the match took place in Germany.

BTW, before Vitali threw in the towel, him and his cornerman said themselves that they thought they might be behind on the scorecards, at least they understand how to properly score a fight.
