he fully established himself at that weight by fighting at the exact weight which martinez challanged him too which was 150lbs?

in the one fight hes had at that weight?

that makes no sense at all. regardless, martinez put it out there and mayweather simply agreed.

I agree. Anything under 154 is not legitimate in my view.

and how many times did Corrales miss weight in those 2 years?

I never gave manny any fuss about his catch weight match up and i certainly won't give Floyd any fuss about it to if he chooses to go this route. Although I believe Floyd did poke fun at PAC before for having catch weight match but this is professional boxing u can't just tell someone to go fight another fighter that will out weight him by 20lbs and say its fair. U got to meet in between!
          Get real.

" if you can't handle the heat, then get out of the kitchen "

Catch-weight's were originally conceived back under the original divisional system to enable a match-up between two name opponents who would normally never meet because of weight disparity.

Those fights did not initially involve fighters who were on top of their game, they did not involve titles, and they were known as an "exhibition match".

Today, we have 17 divisions, so catchweights are completely unnecessary.

Boxing uses weight divisions, and it uses them for a reason.....

" if you can't handle the heat, then get out of the kitchen "

There are only two reasons to require a catch-weight.....

1.) you are not good enough to compete with your opponent as his natural weight, which is fine

2.) you are attempting to drain him to gain an unfair advantage, which is not fine

            he certainly looked the part.

i'm also old enough to have kids of my own, and they'd whoop your ass, punk.

i dont even want to talk about what i'd do to you
It's funny that people believe Floyd was 160 for that fight.

Floyd weighed in at 149 against Baldomir, that was the last fight he had unofficially weigh himself for, then didn't weigh himself again until the Ortiz fight, in which he weighed in something like 150 or whatever.

In the De La Hoya fight, Floyd was supposedly huge, looked the biggest he'd ever been, even bigger than in the Marquez fight. Turns out the rumors are that he was actually just 149 on fight night, don't take it from me, BPP said that. Although HBO didn't weigh either of the two fighters that night.

Now to the good part....why in the hell, would Floyd weigh right around 147-151 on fight night on all of his welterweight bouts tracked by HBO's unofficial weigh in's, but when he didn't weigh in for a couple of years, people suspect he was weighing in at 180 pounds, then in his first fight back to the unofficial scales, at an older age, and an age where it would make sense for him to rehydrate more on fight night, 34 years old...comes in weighing 150lbs.

Makes no sense to me. If Floyd is ever gonna weigh at 160 on any fight night, now is the time, at this age. But the truth is, and i'm only saying facts, I only speak with facts, the truth is, the only proof of Floyd's weigh in's, show him coming in at 147-150, even at the advanced age of 34 years old.

People don't stop to think, that maybe Floyd looked like The Incredible Hul[that's how they're making it out to be] against Marquez, because Marquez is just that damn small compared to Floyd. And that's exactly how Floyd would look if he shared the ring with Pacquiao, who is the same size as Marquez.

Floyd coming in at 160 for Marquez, should be a myth added to Ancient Aliens on the History Channel. Because, to think that, I think it's out of this world.

            • Meh... completely meaningless fight below 154.

Even at 154 it's only just a decent fight. @ 160 for the Lineal/Ring Middleweight title, it would be a legacy fight for Floyd, in which if he emerges victorious he can retire and ride off into the sunset as a surefire top 25 ATG.

Interesting, thanks. Does anyone else have any thoughts on the weight ?

You don't beat Casamayor at 130, after spending a whole one year in jail, and be drained a 130 3 years earlier. It just doesn't happen.

So to insinuate that Chico was drained when he fought Floyd is asinine. And, Corrales never fought over 130 since winning the IBF SFW title all the way up to the Floyd bout.

i'm going to be shocked if he can get anywhere near that light, but i'm sure he will try

i'm guessing that few lbs below 155 or so will be very tough to shed for a soon to be 37 year old of his size and level of fitness

you're right, though, he's going to be foaming at the mouth for that fight and will do whatever it takes within the realm of reasonability

i'll only believe the fight is actually going to happen when he makes the weight safely, though, that's for sure!

martinez hasnt weighed 150 in almost ten years
                    Hmmm..... solid points.

Anyone here with any experience with dropping weight correctly ?

That fight was definitely not a cherrypick. It was one of the best fight that could have been made at the time, that's why it sold so much. The result of the fight left a lot of people bitter. And I agree it should be at 154.

But i'm talking about the line you said that Floyd has a title at 154. He had a title at 154.
