I am an attorney and he wouldn't be "breaking the law." There is no legal requirement that Floyd fight on May 5. That is complete BS. He'd have no issue so long as he fought, in Las Vegas, before he reported to jail. Even if it were a requirement, the court would move it without an issue because it is immaterial. The only material part is that he fight in Vegas before he reports to jail.

Floyd probably does have contractual commitments based on the May 5 date, however. He could almost certainly change the date on all of them except for MGM which would be hard pressed to find a replacement of comparable stature on May 5. All would be ok if he fought later in the month at the MGM, but that isn't want Pacquiao wants so Floyd probably has a problem here.

That being said, that is the risk you run when you book a venue for a fight in which you need two to tango and you are only bringing one person to the dance. Floyd was presumptuous and idiotic to book the 5th of May without Pacquiao's consent first. Unless, of course, he didn't care who he was fighting on May 5. By booking the 5th without Pacquiao's consent, he gave himself a built in "out" if Pacquiao demanded a different day. I'd be interested to know what his real motivation was.
