Comments Thread For: Mayweather Not Legally Capable To Move From May 5 Date

You don't believe it because you don't want to.
Arum wants to change the date which makes absolutely no sense.
Again May 5th in not just some arbitrary date here, this is one of the biggest boxing dates. It doesn't matter that neither Pacquiao or Mayweather are not mexican. Mexicans make up a huge percentage of boxing fans who buy the PPV's, and they expect big fights on May 5th.
Bob Arum knows this, which is why when he thought Mayweather was going to jail he was wanting to put Pacquaio on May 5th.
What about this don't you understand?Comment

Mayweather is not obligated by the criminal court to fight May 5, and even if he were, his lawyer could get that changed in a day.
He likely has contractual obligations (to MGM) to fight that day, but he should have thought about that before he booked that venue without an opponent or a contract.
It is as simple as that.Comment

Look, I like Mayweather and it's a fact that Bobbo can be a d*ck. However, it's kind of silly for the angry mob that is boxingscene to be all indignant like Mayweather is now some super righteous wrongfully persecuted individual.Karen Winckler, the attorney for WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr., and the boxer's adviser, Leonard Ellerbe, advised BoxingScene.com that Mayweather is "not legally" capable of rescheduling his planned return on May 5th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Mayweather has "contract agreements" in place with several companies, which obligate Mayweather to fight on the planned May date.

The guy blatantly ducked the fight in question for 2 years and the only reason he can only fight on May 5th is b/c he was convicted of committing a crime. He is at LEAST 50% responsible for this fight being pushed back this long, and he only began actively pursuing the fight when he saw a difficult style matchup that exposed Pac's vulnerability to an extent.
The man is acting clearly as an opportunist. No one forced Mayweather to get thrown in jail. With that said. Bob, do what you have to do to make this fight so we can stop talking about it.
But lets not act like Mayweather is some saint in all this. He isn't, and the boxing public is once again hyper reactionary to schoolyard tweets and manipulation tactics. If the fight doesn't get done, it's also b/c of the many days Mayweather was on vacation or not tweeting to make the fight happen. There are multiple guilty parties in this debacle.Comment

Haha ******* pretending to be a lawyer lol sitdown son you know noting about Law"The internet lawyers kill me"--yes, they do. The irony.
I am an attorney and he wouldn't be "breaking the law." There is no legal requirement that Floyd fight on May 5. That is complete BS. He'd have no issue so long as he fought, in Las Vegas, before he reported to jail. Even if it were a requirement, the court would move it without an issue because it is immaterial. The only material part is that he fight in Vegas before he reports to jail.
Floyd probably does have contractual commitments based on the May 5 date, however. He could almost certainly change the date on all of them except for MGM which would be hard pressed to find a replacement of comparable stature on May 5. All would be ok if he fought later in the month at the MGM, but that isn't want Pacquiao wants so Floyd probably has a problem here.
That being said, that is the risk you run when you book a venue for a fight in which you need two to tango and you are only bringing one person to the dance. Floyd was presumptuous and idiotic to book the 5th of May without Pacquiao's consent first. Unless, of course, he didn't care who he was fighting on May 5. By booking the 5th without Pacquiao's consent, he gave himself a built in "out" if Pacquiao demanded a different day. I'd be interested to know what his real motivation was.Comment
