I get the feeling that this might be another backwards excuse in the work by some fans.

"Arum want's Marquez for May 5th because he's Mexican"

As if that should be prioritized over Mayweather-Pac

Late May is the final duck move......
They know that Floyd can't go to that judge and ask for a later date.

Not after telling the judge that Mat 5th was locked and that they couldn't change it.

Floyds lawyers told that judge that May 5th was signed sealed and delivered.

        It is real

@ChrisMannixSI: Bob Arum tells SI from Philippines that if @FloydMayweather accepts a 50-50 split and can guarantee his half, Pacquiao can fight in late May

@ChrisMannixSI: Arum says Mayweather is "Plan A" for Pacquiao. Says he doesn't like the idea of doing the fight at the MGM Grand but will do it.

@ChrisMannixSI: Arum says he is guaranteeing Pacquiao's half, if someone guarantees Floyd's the fight "can be made in ten minutes."

@ChrisMannixSI: Arum says if the framework of a deal with Mayweather isn't in place by Saturday, Pacquiao will pick from the Cotto/Bradley/JMM/Peterson list

Because that's when Floyd has the contractual obligation (to mgm) that was the basis of his jail sentence getting delayed.

A better question is, why not may fifth?

because May 5th is already reserved and is a big boxing weekend. late May is unrealistic how can Toprank expect Floyd to fight a week before he he have to report to jail? health wise doesn't he need some time to recover and get the fight finances in order before going

Do you realize that by Arum saying MGM is now ok, it totally discredits the point for the fight to be made in late May. Arum said it needed to be in late May only because he wanted to build a stadium. No stadium means no reason for it to be in late May according to Arum's own words(if he indeed say he was ok with MGM). So in Arum doesn't now accept May 5 it then becomes a clear duck you dump packla

Because May 5th is the date that Mayweather has had reserved as early as November.

What's the need to go for late in May when May 5th is already on the table and there's no reason for it to not happen then?

Plus, it would actually be a bigger event if they did it on Cinco De Mayo anyway.

Logically, May 5th is obviously the date.
