Mosley vs. Mayweather & Pacquiao - An Opinion

Reading the Pac vs. May Resume thread got me thinking about a common WW opponent: Shane Mosley.

I'm gonna get flamed for this, but the Mosley that fought Mayweather and the one that fought Pacquiao was roughly the same fighter. Rewatch the fights, especially the first 3 rounds of each, and look at it objectively. People act like Mosley got way slower, weaker, and totally shot in the one year between those fights. Face it, he was shot in both.

Of course, Floyd gets a good deal more credit due to the timing and circumstances (which worked out perfectly for him), but calling one win great and the other trash is just silly. It was the same fighter. The only difference was a belt and a perception.

Mosley came up with his one last great performance vs. Margarito whose style is tailor made for him, a win that would boost up his stock significantly. A more accurate representation of Mosley was probably the one who fought Mayorga just 4 months earlier. Keep in mind that fight would be almost two years before he would fight Mayweather.

A fighter coming off a big win over the no.1 welterweight at the time is the same as the one who lost a lopsided beating to the best pound for pound fighter and a draw to the Latin Snake?

Cool story, but you're arguing against a straw-man. I haven't heard anyone say that Mosley was a great win for Mayweather while being a trash win for Pacquiao.

People tend to forget that Mosley was almost a year and a half inactive before the Mayweather fight.

Still hold the May win higher in regard than Pacs though but mostly based on his horrid performance with Mora than his loss to Mayweather.

It's a fact that fighters on winning streaks are much difficult as opposed to fighters on losing streaks. The Mosley that fought Mayweather was better, not by far though, then the one that fought Pacquaio.

I didn't want to however it's got to be said that Mosley fought Mora at 154lb, and so not only had to tactically prepare for Pac but cut weight appropriately. This is another fact ignored most of the time.

Mora is a bad match up for Mosley, he fights on a bike and has speed while Margo is a walking punching bag.

Mora had two good fights with Forrest and beat him once, Forrest being Mosley's daddy.

Mora giving Mosley a tough fight was no surprise to me and Nazeem himself told before this fight Mora is a very bad match up.

They aren't drastically different. Mayweather deserves more credit because Mosley was considered the best welterweight at the time.

They were vastly different status wise at the time of the fights. How one would try to argue that is beyond me.

However he was shot in both fights, the difference is that team Pacman had to absolutely make sure that he was before they cherrypicked.

The Shane that Floyd fought was light years ahead of the BOUGHT-OFF scrub Pac sparred with .
