The title is a bit inflammatory, but other than that the premise seems reasonable enough.

Please explain what you mean and why.

Now please post the size advantage that Martinez enjoys over Pac and Floyd.

It's not a good argument. If you don't want Sergio to fight Ward just say it's because you don't wanna' see Martinez get his ass kicked and be done with it.
montiel (122) and khurtsidze (160) are both 5'4. donaire (122) and pacquiao (147) are both 5'6. pwill (154) and chambers (208) are both 6'1. height has nothing to do with weight classes, it's a fighter's individual body frame or build that determines where he's best suited at. fact is though, martinez' fight night weight against barker was 165, just like margarito when he faced pacquaio. 165 isn't even what ward weighs in at the scales. like a previous thread, does anyone know ward's fight night weight?

EDIT: even if ward weighs about 180 on fight night, look who you're comparing ward to. people say martinez needs to prove himself by fighting bigger guys, yet look who the hell mayweather and pacquiao fought. the bigger guy for may was ortiz, the bigger guy for pac was margs. yeah, and how much of a better quality of a fighter is ward compared to those two? if you want to apply the same logic for martinez and say he has to fight bigger guys to prove his worth, then do that for pac and may. ward, the best SMW right now. how about pac face lara or mayweather face pirog. that's what you people are asking of martinez. if not, martinez can do a pacquiao and fight a piece of shit version of a known name, perhaps abraham or johnson. geez, even them right now are better quality than the 150 plasterless margarito

Pac fought Marg with a 17 lb weight advantage

Mayweather fought Ortiz who had a 15 lb weight advantage

Why cnt Martinez fight someone with a big weight advantage like Ward and dominate?

Lets see if Martinez is the real deal which many here have made him out to be because I've ALWAYS have doubts....
Pavlik weighed close to 15lbs more. Try again

A few months ago there was a thread similar to this one where I took the trouble to do the arithmetic and show that SM moving up 8 lbs was much less percentage body mass increase than asking Floyd or Pac to move up and fight him at 154.

I don't buy the "frame" argument. Imo if Martinez was concerned with legacy and P4P arguments he would hire a nutritionist and weight trainer and put on a little healthy weight and start making a run at some of the lesser SMW to see if it's feasible for him. Personally I think he'd beat them all except Ward and maybe Froch.

Seems like right now he wants to bank some money and so he's calling out the 2 biggest names that happen to be (fortunately for him though not for us) smaller guys.

Hopefully he'll make some dough and then start worrying about his legacy.

yeah but he's calling out a guy (pacquaio) who fought a guy (margarito) that is his size and his fight night weight. if he was calling out pacquiao, and pacquiao never fought margarito, then that'd be absurd. but pacquiao went on to try and claim a vacant 8th title against a shot version of margs. if pacquiao is truly an atg as many are making his claim of right now, why not face the actual guy who held that title, and at that catchweight. like before, p4p or the great fighters of today don't have to jump up weight classes and collect belts to prove themselves, just because pacquiao did. and like i said in my previous post (i edited it, you probably didn't read that part), look who pac fought. clottey, a guy cotto (who he just beat) and didn't even show up to the fight. and then margarito (nonranked, past prime) for a vacant title. you're asking martinez to face WARD (the #1 SMW). those are two different quality and level of opponents. you're asking martinez to prove himself, well pacquiao should prove his atg and 8th title status by facing someone like trout or lara.

You understand their is a difference between weigh in weight and re-hydration weight? Ortiz/Margo may have came in the ring weighing 160+ but that doesn't mean they had the power of a middle weight.

Martinez wouldn't stand a chance in hell against Ward.

Martinez may be on his third weight class, but he's only won the middleweight world title, so you can't say he was that successful at welterweight or light middle...

I would like to see him beat a real good MW first. Other than Pavlik, he has yet to beat a good MW. And Pavlik had his demons at the time with weight, alcohol, injuries, etc.

Ward has plenty of options left still. Bute, Cloud, Dawson...
