you're kidding me right? margarito and ortiz were around 165 when they fought pacquiao and mayweather. martinez against barker was 165 on fight night, that's 10 lbs away from 175. i guarantee light heavweights go up anywhere from 5-15 lbs a night. that'd be anywhere from 15-25 lbs on fight night. also, i guarantee martinez wouldn't be fighting any shitty quality type of opponent like pacquiao's margarito or de la hoya.
no, cotto and pacquiao were 1 lb apart on the scales, martinez and ward would never be that close together imo. i doubt their fight night weights would resemble the difference between pac and cotto, but obviously we won't know cause hbo didn't show their weights on fight night.sergio is to ward, as manny is to cotto. . that's a good comparison of the natural size difference. . . about 8 natural pounds or so. . not that much . ..
so what if they earned their stripes, that doesn't mean they can stop taking challenges, especially since their considered the 2 best in the world. the fact is pacquiao decided to fight for a 154 belt against a guy who weighed 165 on fight night. martinez just showed he can weigh in at 165 on fight night and says he's capable of making a 150 lb catchweight. not every top fighter or p4p guy jumps up weight classes and faces bigger guys. even then, pacquiao fought a shot margarito and clottey, martinez is being asked to fight ward or bute, the best of the division. pacquiao never faced the best of the division.pac and floyd have already earned their stripes. . . they been on top for a damn decade. . . sergio has came along and picked up a few good wins, and because of his flashy KO, people were completely blinded. . .Comment

Martinez needs to prove his P4P status by beating the top guys in the MW division, not SMW and not JMW. Team Martinez already left the Pac idea by the way-side, I wish boxing fans could do the same.Comment

team martinez hasn't left anything by the wayside when considering pac or may. dibella was just interviewed a couple days ago saying if pacquiao ducks mayweather again, mayweather's people would look at martinez as an option. whether that's bullshit or not, the fact is martinez is ready to drop everything if pacquiao or mayweather gave him a call. kind of sad to see, but martinez is stuck on trying to fight either guy to prove he's p4p #1. those two guys are his main targets for future opponents.Comment
