all these fighters have held world titles in only one weight class. being p4p or the "real deal" doesn't mean you have to go up and fight bigger guys. pacquiao fought a piece of shit version of margarito, a scared clottey, and a drained de la hoya. beating those "bigger" guys ain't that great even if it looks good on paper. dude just got outboxed by a 38 year old lightweight btw.Comment

No they don't... where'd you get that from?P4P fighters move up weight classes and dominate opponents both Floyd and Pac have done this so can Martinez if not he does not deserve the number 3 spot JMM does instead
Pac fought Marg with a 17 lb weight advantage
Mayweather fought Ortiz who had a 15 lb weight advantage
Why cnt Martinez fight someone with a big weight advantage like Ward and dominate?
Lets see if Martinez is the real deal which many here have made him out to be because I've ALWAYS have doubts....
People have different criteria, so I guess that's yours.Comment

All p4p means is who would be the best if every fighter was the same size but could retain their attributes which made them successful which they obviously can't......it has nothing at all to do with weight class jumping and is totally theoretically based on their skill sets and attributes put on display against the competition they face regardless of what weight class they are in.I actually share a similar viewpoint.
The way i see it, i seperate being good in your division, and actual p4p. You should be good in your division, otherwise you are just a ****ty fighter. But beating people in your division doesnt give any special significance to your weight(p4p), its just a fair fight. But being able to move up out of your element and murk people gives special significance to your weight.
Obviously im in the minority with how i view p4p, but thats just how i see it.Comment

Ya, im a little less about theory and a little more about results. I would consider manny #1, and he demonstrates that by murking people who are naturally 10-20 lbs bigger than him.All p4p means is who would be the best if every fighter was the same size but could retain their attributes which made them successful which they obviously can't......it has nothing at all to do with weight class jumping and is totally theoretically based on their skill sets and attributes put on display against the competition they face regardless of what weight class they are in.
Im not denying martinez could be #3, but if he was, he ought to be able to hold his own. Obviously there are limits, but if war-martinez got together with around a 165 weight, the size discrepency wouldnt be anything more unusual than we have seen from manny fights.
edit: if im not mistaken, war is only two inches taller than martinez, and martinez has a 4 inch reach advantage. hardly an absurd mismatch imoLast edited by ~AK49~; 12-18-2011, 06:17 PM.Comment

There are no height classes in boxing, he is a naturally smaller man who could still make JMW if he wanted and it is unfair to penalize a fighter for fighting in the division they are best suited for.Ya, im a little less about theory and a little more about results. So if he wants to test the waters at 168 fantastic if not, I can't knock him.Comment

I don't see how people figure that Ward is that much bigger than Sergio. Especially considering the guys that Martinez is calling out.
Boxrec has Ward at 6' 0 " and Martinez at 5' 10" with Martinez having a 4 inch reach advantage (75" to 71" for Ward)
Now please post the size advantage that Martinez enjoys over Pac and Floyd.
It's not a good argument. If you don't want Sergio to fight Ward just say it's because you don't wanna' see Martinez get his ass kicked and be done with it.Comment
