That's why most of the Ring and lineal titles are vacant most of the time. The reason is that money talks. Only the biggest names are in a position where he no longer needs an alphabet belt in order to make money - and even the big names mostly care more about the alphabet belts.
The Ring belts are vacant often because they are very difficult to get, being that the #1 has to fight the #2 and as we know in boxing, with all the politics and international fighters and everything else including money, sometimes it's just very hard to do. But historians, boxing fans, etc. certainly care about it that's for sure.

As for the fighter, it depends on the person I suppose. Many fighters wear there Ring Belts very proudly and feel that is the best you can get. Others like to suck up to the sanctioning bodies like the WBC or whomever.

and can someone please school me or help me understand how dudes came to the conclusion that B.Hop was going to lose that fight?!?...what happened in those 4 or 5 minutes that I missed?!?....what I saw was Ex trying to find his range and Chad trying to find his....nothing more nothing less!!...if B.Hop would've injured his shoulder in the first Pascal fight after the third round....dudes would've went crazy with that....but look how he turned it on and got cooking....what I'm trying to say is...that you can't determine the outcome of a B.Hop fight like that.....he's one of the FEW fighters in the game who knows how to ADJUST...get that, ADJUST!!
You have every reason, as a fan, to feel this way given the duration of the first encounter. Both were practically dry in the ring.

Having said that, fact of the matter is Dawson is young. Another fact, although dubbed "boring" by most people, Dawson is a very VERY technical fighter that has the speed, movement, youth, to give Benard Hopkins all sorts of trouble. I do believe skill for skill both fighters are even with a slight, i mean slight edge for bhop with experience. It all comes down to activity and youth, and I feel that Dawson was truly motivated to open up on Hopkins for a variety of reasons. As a fair assessment, and although I am a fan of Dawson, I just think the youthful technical fighter will beat the aged technical fighter.

      Later homie!

It's very hard to do because most boxers don't care enough about it to fight the #2 in their division in order to get it. They'd rather win and then defend alphabet belts.

Historians care but don't pay the boxers' wages. Only hardcore fans like you and me care. And most boxers don't care because most fans don't care, and the fans (not the hardcore ones) pay their wages.

It is very very rare for a boxer to fight someone specifically in order to get the Ring belt or the lineal title. If they get it as a bonus, they wear it proudly, but almost every time, they take the fight in order to unify alphabet titles or because the money was too good to turn down. When did you last hear any boxer say they wanted to fight so-and-so in order to win the Ring belt or a lineal title? It's extremely rare.
