You *****s trolling hard. No one is good to any of you all unless it is Floyd. Man boxing fans have gone to utter ****.
Nobody has even mentioned Floyd here besides you Mr.alt so who is the *****?? You are just like Amir Khan, every time you open your mouth it's about Floyd, and at the end of the day your still a loser.
If Roach isnt considered a good trainer, then no one today is.
reality is that its more about the fighter than the trainer. What I do know is that Khan looked ****ty and fragile until he met Roach, and then he started winning against good level opposition.
even a perfect trainer(and Roach isnt a perfect trainer by any means) cant completely change who a fighter is, they simply take what they see and try to point them in the right direction.
Khan has a conditioning coach now and is working on his offense, but what of his intangibles??Both Khan and Pac had bad intangibles in their last fights, and both of their last fights were against counter punchers and overall well rounded fighters..It's his job to game plan and have a plan A B and C,Khan did not seem to have that..Khan was not able to adjust and neither was Pac..It has to say something about Roach,no??
Yeah, Steward gets the credit as well for the accomplishments in the 80's, but I don't like the whole "adopt an already decent fighter" gameplan he and Roach do these days.
It shows lack of commitment, IMO.
But Steward deserves as much credit for changing Wlad's style, and helping him become the goliath he is today, as he does for the stuff in the 80's, IMO.
Whereas Roach's claims to have "changed" Manny into a "different fighter", and the "right hand", and all that crap just turned out to be pure talk.
I thought that Pacquiao had started working with Roach as early as 2001? I do think Roach had a lot to do in his improvements, although these jokers that say that Pacquiao has 'changed so much' from his featherweight days are out of it.

it says he seems to suck at teaching his fighters how to fight on the inside, and that the generic guard he teaches them to use is weak to uppercuts.
but thats just the way it is. Hes helped both Manny and Khan improve their offensive abilities and tighten up their weaknesses, thats just his game, like how Manny Steward helps fighters(for the most part) box on the outside at range.
Trainers in general are overrated, theres only so much they can do, when it gets down to it most of it is due to the fighters, although you get some unbelievable exeptions like Eddie Futch and Arcel.
who else would be a better trainer for Khan or Pacquiao?
Just to clarify before everybody "jumps my shit" : I think Roach is a good trainer. Just highly overrated, as most trainers in this sport are.
Most trainers get entirely too much credit : When the bell rings, it's all on one man. Period.
The only current trainer I think you can really say is a legit badass in his field is Beristain, unlike Roach (who took over for several guys who were already champions), "Nacho" crafted most of his on his own.
That to me deserves more respect that jumping in the corner of a Tyson, a Toney, or a Hopkins, and getting credit for their victories. (Though in Hopkins' case, he lost)
I agree, Roach is just a good trainer but highly overrated. Pacquiao's ascension also took Roach to fame, but he isn't a godlike figure like a lot of guys have been saying.
The main problem with Roach IMO is the fact that he's not very good at making fighting plans, and once the fight starts he's not able to adjust and make his boxers change the original plan.
With Pac vs Marquez, Marquez was landing hard shots and Pacquiao was juts moving forward chasing him. It was pretty obvious that Marquez was walking to the left, therefore avoiding Pacquiao's power punches. However Roach didn't change the fight plan.
With Linares it was even worse, since Linares was clearly winning the fight and was a much better boxer than Demarco. During the last couple of rounds Linares should have used his jab and footwork to move around the ring and avoid exchanges with Demarco, however the plan continued the same way and when Linares traded shots with Tony he was KOd
And now with Khan his plan was good at some moments, I thought there were 2 or 3 rounds in which Khan completely dominated by throwing fast combinations and move around the ring. However at the end Khan was just running way too much and not throwing enough and that's one of the reasons the judges awarded the victory for Peterson.
Add to the fact the guy has such a huge mouth and big ego, wonder why HBO is even doing that big segment on him.
He's a good trainer, but highly overhyped by the media. I mean you ask the casual folks who the best trainer in boxing is right now and the'll either say they don't know or it's Roach.
I think Freddie just got very lucky with his recent success, kind of like he was at the right place at the right time.
Roach's time under the lights will come to an end soon. Pacquiao is on his way out, sooner than later. Linares and Khan aren't world beaters, and Chavezito will prove the same. Roach is getting older and his disease is getting worse, I'm sure his coaching career has peaked.
