the only thing "controversial" about the barrera win was the judges scorecards giving Marquez the win by wide margins. Other then that, you can't discredit that win for marquez, which imo is one of his best.Marquez hasnt beaten Pacquiao. Trust me, Im all against official decisions...and in fact, I had Marquez beating Pacquiao in the second fight. But every one of those fights were incredibly close and could have gone either way. In that respect, I kind of look at those fights as 'draws' when trying to do a legacy thing.
If you take Pacquiao off of Marquez's record, his best win is probably over Juan Diaz. Not that Im saying thats bad in any way...at his best Juan was pretty damn good. but he had already been put through hell against Campbell.
I think its actually very close.(mind you: I dont give Trinidad credit for his 'win' over DLH).
Just to summarize their meaningful wins:
Trinidad-Blocker, Garcia, Camacho, Campas, Carr, Whitaker, Reid, Vargas, Joppy, Cherifi
Marquez-Peden, Medina, Gainer, Salido, Barrera(controversial), Juarez, Casamayor, Diaz, Diaz, KatsidisComment

Steak, I usually agree with your posts and I've seen you make solid posts in the history section but...really? Barrera/Márquez controversial? I mean, even if you count Barrera's knockdown and take away his point deduction (Barrera 10-8 round), I still thought Márquez beat Barrera in that fight.Marquez hasnt beaten Pacquiao. I guess I'll have to watch it again.

Vargas was a very good fighter at the time, with wins over Winky Wright, Ike Quartey, Raul Marquez and Campas. I dont think its a huge stretch to say that Diaz at his best was almost as good a win as Vargas, but Juan had already gotten bludgeoned by Nate Campbell and took a beating prior to fighting Marquez.
I would consider Katsidis maybe not life and death but it was definitely a hard fight. Marquez got hit a lot, and the knockdown was very legitimate and not something you can just ignore.Comment

overall Skillwise I'll give it to Marquez but who was greater in this sport, it was deffinately Tito! Tito was must watch TV! He was like a baby Tyson. If Marquez was to retire and come back, it wouldnt be as big news as when Tito came back. That right there should tell you the impact Tito had on this sport.
Both fighters are great and deffinately up there amongst the greatest hispanics/latinos in boxing history!Comment

Marquez got his face pretty ****ed up, and a very large part of the early rounds could have gone either way, not to mention that imo you should be able to give Barrera a 10-8 for the knockdown. Marquez took over late however.Steak, I usually agree with your posts and I've seen you make solid posts in the history section but...really? Barrera/Márquez controversial? its a really fun fight to watch, and its not impossible to score the fight for Barrera. not in any way am I claiming robbery, and I do give Marquez credit for the win...but with it being so close and it being possible that he lost it, I dont give him the kind of credit that I would had Marquez won more clearly, thats all.Comment

Really? Tito was put down by lesser fighters than Diaz and Kats.
