Cotto should ask Chavez Jr. to come down to 156

Then maybe compromise at 157. Cotto could still come in at anything below that and beat the living hell out of Chavez. He would still beat him at 160 but Cotto is at a point and position where he can make demands and get things his way.

    Thoughts?

Nah... Make it the full 160, but a logical rehydration clause I would be alright with..

Just don't make the fight, fight a 154 pound champ.

If you're going to go to 160 and be at a size disadvantage at least go for it all and fight Martinez. Chavez is a lose lose.

Chavez jr is too big for Cotto. Think Margarito with some semblence of actual skill & middleweight power. Cotto better pass this one up.

            Do those things actually exist?

I know Cotto/Pacquiao was rumored to have that and that Cotto also tried to put in the contract against Margarito but ultimately failed do so.

Has there ever been a fight where a rehydration clause was used and actually upheld?

If they have, they're not very common I presume.

I feel like a total boxing newbie now.

Could't agree more. Seriously, Cotto should just put.

But why though? I get what you're saying and where you're coming from but why? Why should Cotto sacrifice when it's Chavez who needs Cotto and not the other way around?

Cotto is the bigger household name and figure in terms of the best fighters out there.

Going up to 160 doesn't make sense for Cotto, not only does it work in Chavez favor because he won't have to lose more weight but Cotto's speed will definitely take a hit from going up to 160. And I'm assuming carrying more weight on that ring might make him tire faster unless he trains in high altitude this time around.

I think Chavez should come down so they can meet in the middle.

No, no he wouldn't Don't get me wrong, I don't care for Chavez, but he has shown boxing ability lately & he's just too damn big.
