Mayweather jr fighting Cotto is a very good idea, but, will it happen?

It didn't happen in the past, and I doubt if it happens in the near future.
Cotto is a dangerous opponent for Mayweather, he can give one hell of a fight especially if it held at Madison Square Garden, NY.

Just allow Cotto to fight Chavez jr or Saul Alvarez.

I've said it since two years ago before he fought Pacquiao. I said, Cotto has a better chance at beating Pacquiao than he has at beating Mayweather. I thought he would beat Pacquiao because I didn't count on Pacquiao taking a punch. Unfortunately, he was able to and beat up Cotto in the process.

As for Cotto-Mayweather, would I buy it? Sure, why not? However, I don't like his chances at all. Cotto is still VERY prone to power punches. Stats don't lie. When you look at his fights with Judah, Mosley, Margarito, Pacquiao, Mayorga...power punch percentage from opponents is over 35%. We're talking about fairly crude guys like Margarito and Mayorga. Even THEY were able to land power punches VERY consistently.

Imagine what happens when Cotto faces a guy known for his incredible accuracy and excellent defense. Cotto gets shut down en route to a decision.

At most, he wins three or four rounds if the boxing gods smile upon him.

And I'm one of Cotto's biggest fans here.

I just don't think he can beat Mayweather. I've never seen that. That straight right is going to be a doozy.

I really don't think Mayweather will have that EASY of a time vs Cotto like all you guys think. I wont be surprise if Cotto wins really.

As inspirational as the bludgeoning of Antonio Margarito was, reality has to intrude when you seriously think about a match up like this. Because the fact is Cotto is damaged goods who does little to enhance Mayweather’s legacy at this point. Cotto can be hit and hit often, to a sharpshooter like Mayweather who has pinpoint accuracy, his punches would be worse than plaster.

It's an interesting fight but in the end a pointless mismatch.
