No you are quite right, but they are supposed to be in a multitude of cosmetics including absorbent powder and hand cream. To make plaster-of-paris a third ingredient is needed a complex Oxygen component, which was absent. I've been embroiled in this controversy for a long time now, mainly that I believe Margarito did not know about the used pad and also that the pad discovered was harmless, and this has never been proven to be otherwise.
Today already I've read at lest 30 versions of the big event, with large differences in quite a few, and I noted particularly that Thomas Hauser-also a trained lawyer- said that he interviewed several boxing trainers who EACH said that they could easily insert a used pad in a boxer's wraps without him knowing. Surprisingly, they included The Roach the famous Naazim "Sherlock" Richardson. Mosley's lawyer said the pad was "dripping wet".....So, considering that Margarito was found innocent of knowing about the insert by the Commission, but penalised because he was "head of the team", what the hell is going on with all these Zombies who are suddenly such condemnatory experts.
Then I found at least a dozen different accounts of the discovery and the appearance of the pad by people present or intimately involved. I was surprised to find that the wrapping had been conducted in the presence of 4 Commissioners and Mosley's trainer Richardson from the beginning, not as many said, that Richardson came late and asked that the wrapping be done again, thereby finding the used pad. Richardson had witnessed the wrapping of the first hand with no comment and only asked to look at the second pad during the wrapping of the second wrist. he then asked to look again at the first pad, which the Commission refused, but Margarito held up his hand and said sure have a look I have nothing to hide. handled by at least a dozen people -at least- before they ever reached the lab for testing, and the sulphur and calcium were found by using an XRay Fluorescence spectrometer. Also, that they were only traces.
Anyway, I think this had gone on long enough. Margarito himself was convicted with no evidence against him, in fact every evidence showing he knew nothing, but for technical reasons he was adjudged to be responsible.. Any fault was at the door of his trainer.
And this is my final word on this matter.
