    No you are quite right, but they are supposed to be in a multitude of cosmetics including absorbent powder and hand cream. To make plaster-of-paris a third ingredient is needed a complex Oxygen component, which was absent. I've been embroiled in this controversy for a long time now, mainly that I believe Margarito did not know about the used pad and also that the pad discovered was harmless, and this has never been proven to be otherwise.

    Today already I've read at lest 30 versions of the big event, with large differences in quite a few, and I noted particularly that Thomas Hauser-also a trained lawyer- said that he interviewed several boxing trainers who EACH said that they could easily insert a used pad in a boxer's wraps without him knowing. Surprisingly, they included The Roach the famous Naazim "Sherlock" Richardson. Mosley's lawyer said the pad was "dripping wet".....So, considering that Margarito was found innocent of knowing about the insert by the Commission, but penalised because he was "head of the team", what the hell is going on with all these Zombies who are suddenly such condemnatory experts.

    Then I found at least a dozen different accounts of the discovery and the appearance of the pad by people present or intimately involved. I was surprised to find that the wrapping had been conducted in the presence of 4 Commissioners and Mosley's trainer Richardson from the beginning, not as many said, that Richardson came late and asked that the wrapping be done again, thereby finding the used pad. Richardson had witnessed the wrapping of the first hand with no comment and only asked to look at the second pad during the wrapping of the second wrist. he then asked to look again at the first pad, which the Commission refused, but Margarito held up his hand and said sure have a look I have nothing to hide. handled by at least a dozen people -at least- before they ever reached the lab for testing, and the sulphur and calcium were found by using an XRay Fluorescence spectrometer. Also, that they were only traces.

    Anyway, I think this had gone on long enough. Margarito himself was convicted with no evidence against him, in fact every evidence showing he knew nothing, but for technical reasons he was adjudged to be responsible.. Any fault was at the door of his trainer.

    And this is my final word on this matter.

      See, the problem was ******-ass Resto shook hands with Collins Sr. before taking off his gloves right after the fight was over. Resto knew Panama Lewis had taken the padding out of the gloves because he tried to pretend his hand was hurt when Collins Sr. grabbed one of his gloves.

      Collins Jr. had two detached retina. Cotto got beaten to a pulp. Anyway you spin it, when you tamper with gloves you turn the gloves into deadly weapons.

      Margarito should have received a life time ban. Putting plaster in the gloves goes back to the 40's. It effectively turned Margarito's gloves into brass knuckles. His excuse is pathetic. Obviously, he had to see his trainer shaking in the plaster between wraps.
      Marvin, there was nothing found in the wraps, only in the pad. So control your "enthusiasm". you're like a fox hunter ready to start off the chase for the kill.

        You seem like a reasonable and smart guy. Have you read the minutes of the CSAC meeting? Look at the last three pages. The pictures are black in white, but you can see there are tampered with. This is the link: http://www.dca.ca.gov/csac/about_us/...818_agenda.pdf

        He might or might not used it against Cotto. But he is guilty of trying to cheat against Mosley.

            Thank you for your kind words I usually get the opposite. I was not able to bring up the link due to my computer balking, but I assume it was the document containing the legal decision handed down by the CSAC at the appeal hearing. I have actually read this document which contained the element of both the original verdict and the appeal. They seemed to me to be based heavily on technicalities, complicated even for me, who although not being conversant with California Law, had a University Law education plus 2 years law office work, in my youth.

            However I did see that contrary to your assertion, the Commission found Margarito to be NOT GUILTY of knowing about the illegal pads,therefore not guilty of trying to cheat Mosley, but, because he was"the head of the team", had to be (using another technicality which had previously been used in a precedent) penalised. They would compensate by giving him the lightest penalty allowable to them by Commission Rules.

            Capetillo was a different matter. He admitted he'd made the pads and that Margarito knew nothing about them. The pads, when examined were made of the standard new gauze, but in the centre of each was a single strip of used gauze. This was described by a Commissioner who examined it when found, to be "slightly stiffer in places, as if it had been in water and dried".

            In fact to me the whole thing is a mystery. The pad could not be shown to be capable of causing any damage, so why make it?. And here I could point out that all the famous pictures of the "evidence", the pad encased in plastic, strewn all over the internet, show absolutely nothing. They actually make the whole pad appear used, when testimony showed it was new, that only the centre was used.

            Capetillo's defence was that his bag was the repository of used items thrown there by other gym members including pads, but for me, this fails because the pad was new, except for that single centre strip. Capetillo could have called witnesses to prove that they threw used items into his bag, and someone else could have made the pad, but didn't. He seemed to be very confused. But for me, the fact that the outer covering of the pad was the standard new gauze, means that it was 99% sure that he made it.

            Sorry for going on for so long, it's a bad habit I have. But I'm finished with this controversy.

              It's like when people compare the Tito thing during the Hopkins fight......Tito had too much gauze, Margarito had a foreign object that had elements of Plaster of Paris...huge difference but people are like "tito tried to cheat and you support him" blah blah.

              It's the same thing here.....what Margarito did was NOTHING like what Resto did, two much different levels of extremes.
              Lets not distance those two situations too far man.

              * They both cheated.
              * They both performed a de****able act.
              * They both would have continued to cheat if they had not been caught

              One got caught before the fact, one got caught after.

              There is very little difference between the two acts.

              A better comparison would be someone who was charged with robbery, because they got caught by police fleeing the scene..... as opposed to someone who was charged with attempted robbery, because they were caught outside the store with a stocking on their head and a handgun in their pocket.

              Both of those situations belong in the same category to me.

                But if I were to expect commentary from someone like this it would be you.

                What we do know is that Capetillo is a scum bag and deserves to be banned for life.

                What we don't know is what Margo knew about this, if it was PROVEN that he knew like Capetillo did then he would be a scum bag as well and should never be allowed to lace up gloves for money ever again.

                ONE that is game like MARGO is game has no reason to want to cheat , he believes he is winning in the sight of death. You have to kill every hair on him to stop him, and while one is doing that he always believes he can win.

                WHY WOULD HE WANT TO CHEAT ?
                God you talk **** sometimes. He was PROVEN guilty, and he was subsequently banned for over 12 months as a result.

                  I wonder if Capetillo's bag is still the " repository " for a whole pile of things that you can use to cheat?

                  And wow, its amazing that he made the same mistake with both hands.

                  Illegal inserts and illegal substances, and he made the same mistake with both hands..... gotcha, must have just been a bad day at the office

                      People here are conffusing things. Luis Resto didn't finish neither the carrier nor the life of billy. As a matter fact he got the green light t continue fighting but he refused to fight because he and his dad were more interested in a multi million suit against the new york athletic commision.
                      Refusing to fight and having too much time in his hands. He one day ******ly decided to drve while intoxicaded. And that's when he crashed and died. Luckily he didn't killed any inocent people like is the case with a lot of these irresponsible mother****ers. So for you guys feeling sorry for billy get you stories straight before coming to a final judgemen
