Meanwhile, what does De la Hoya think his fights with Pacquiao and Mayweather say?

It says that Oscar was older than he was for Mayweather. And fighting at 147 for the first time in seven years.

Forget about triangle theories for a moment. The Marquez (new, improved and not blown up) from last night cant beat Mayweather at all. So lets stop comparing using triangle theories. Mayweather beats anyone from last night. NO *****! All of this other talk is irrelevant.

I've always believed that Mayweather would wipe Pac out by UD, but to compare Mayweather's fight with Marquez and Pac's fights with Marquez is like comparing apples and oranges.

Mayweather/Marquez = Defensive Counterpuncher vs. Aggressive Counterpuncher. Marquez's role switched from aggresive counterpuncher to just plain aggressor (a role that Marquez is not suited to). Add to this Floyd's advantages in height, reach, and skills and Floyd would beat Marquez 100% of the time.

Pacquiao/Marquez = Aggressor vs. Aggressive Counterpuncher. This is Marquez's bread and butter, and always looks great against aggressive fighters (Pac, Katsidis, Diaz). Whatever weight both Marquez and Pac are in, their fights would be competitive.

But still, Mayweather is a level (or levels) above Pac in skill, ring generalship, and ring IQ. I'd still like to see Mayweather vs. Pac though.

DLH certainly put up a better fight against Mayweather. That said, I think even the most hardcore of hardcore Pacquaio fans would agree that Mayweather fought a better version.

They both destroyed Hatton. Pac did it quicker. But this will always be the case. When Mayweather outclasses someone, he systematically takes them apart. When Pac outclasses someone, he blows them out.

Mosley was eaten alive by both. Although I don't think Mayweather necessarily fought a better version, he did fight a more confident and motivated version.

As for JMM, he's the most telling of all the opponents because he's the only fighter one of the two fighters in question have literally struggled with. The saving grace on Pac's side has always been that Pac fought JMM at his more natural weights and Mayweather fought a bloated, slower version of him. But now Pac has fought JMM on the same terms as Mayweather and many feel he lost the fight. That's telling.

Trianlge theories don't always hold true. And yes, styles make fights. But, triangle theories can reveal class. And after that last night, I don't think one is outta bounds in feeling that Manny Pacquaio may not be in Floyd Mayweather's class.
Some very good points, especially in the last paragraph. I'd been slightly favoring Manny in a match-up with Floyd up until last night. Now I'm even less sure. As you correctly point out, styles make fights and triangle theories don't always work; but you have to wonder how Pacquiao would fare against a superior counter-puncher like Mayweather.

Cocain is a hell of a drug...

However, I have known this since 2008. Pac is in for a bad ass whoopin on May 5th 2012...

It's not triangle theory whatsoever simply because of STYLES. The thing JMM does great, especially against Pac, FLOYD DOES BETTER. Ali-Frazier-Foreman all had different styles that were detrimental to one or the other and tailor made for one or the other. This is an entirely different beast.

Nothing unexpected happen last night. The only reason Pac was seen as such a huge favorite is because all of the Mayweather haters clung to this JMM can't fight above 135 nonsense. No, JMM isn't as good as a welterweight as he is as a lightweight and was as a featherweight. And that was true last night. He was slow, and he tired in the late rounds. But he's no bum in any division and can hold his own with anyone. Well, anyone except Floyd Mayweather.

As for Mayweather-Pacquaio, I feel the same as I always have. Pac has about a 3-4 round window to beat Money. If he doesn't knock Money out in that time period, he will be embarrassed and possibily stopped late.

No he's not. Because Arum and Roach won't let him anywhere near Mayweather, like they have been doing the last three years or so. They will push for a fourth fight with JMM and continue with their Mayweather's scared of Pac campaign. If they don't get JMM next, they'll probably fight the Ortiz-Berto II loser.
