Gamboa's defense is already at the next level. His reflexes and foot speed and movement get him out of trouble before he can be touched; some improvement on his good inside defense (Barros and Salido). He used to get caught in exchanges, but has developed enough patience and knowledge of setting up his offense to avoid that.

The most evident areas he needs to improve are his counter punching, initiating his offense (a stronger jab, feints, etc.), and, even though he might not need it until he slows down, his inside fighting.

Steward's training style... Its more for guys with long arms, height advantages, good jabs and straight punches...

When u look at him and Cotto, it's completely unnoticeable... But then look at him and the Klitchkos... Or Dawson... Or Andy Lee...

I think the best trainer for Gamboa would be Roach. He's got that short, in out, combination punches style...

I do not agree with this at all, roach would be an ideal fit even though that would not happen and so many fighters in roach's stable I would not agree to that pairing either. Who else is there that would ve a good fit?

Salas has been with gamboa since his 10th pro fight

roach is a tactics man.... he doesn't 'improve' fighters.... he gives them good gameplans, it's a strategic thing.....

if a fighter wants to improve 'technically' there's a hundred better trainers out there....

roach couldn't fight for ****.... so what can he possibly teach a young fighter? nothing....

but he does know boxing, so he can help a fighter win.... using a sound gameplan and tactics.....

Dumb move by gamboa! These guys running to these overhyped trainers with name recognition has proven to be insane.

Should be good for Gamboa, Stewart should bring a little more aggression out of him. Although I did feel like him and Salas had a stong bond but obviously not or he would not have left him.

Some PR boxing fan on NSB.

                    Before Steward left Cotto:

Steward will make wonders for Cotto. He's a legendary trainer.

After he left and joined Gamboa:

There is nothing Steward can do to help Gamboa, JuanMa will still knock him out. Steward is overrated.
