Gamboa's defense is already at the next level. His reflexes and foot speed and movement get him out of trouble before he can be touched; some improvement on his good inside defense (Barros and Salido). He used to get caught in exchanges, but has developed enough patience and knowledge of setting up his offense to avoid that.
The most evident areas he needs to improve are his counter punching, initiating his offense (a stronger jab, feints, etc.), and, even though he might not need it until he slows down, his inside fighting.
