People need to understand the WBC can't overrule the actual Win/Loss, that's up to the state commission. So while they recognize hopkins as a champion it's up to the state to officially change the record, which they have not had their meeting yet.
So while hopkins still has the belts, he still has the loss. I'm sure the state will rule this a No Contest after reviewing all the evidence.
Hopkins has stated he wants a rematch. Dawson said he doesn't want a rematch and wants Pascal. I don't think anyone would be upset if there is no immediate rematch.

I don't have anything against Hopkins, but he should not be getting that preferential treatment just because he's a cash cow and GBP fighter.
how could the fight be ruled a NC and the belts given to dawson? that doesn't make any sense. Whether it's a NC or a technical draw Hopkins still keeps the belts either way.

It was a bullshiet call from the start so WBC giving back title means absolute nothing either. Should have been NC. Who cares about WBC They would have stripped Dawson anyways and given it to Journeyman that was Mexican. If anything the Ring Title should be given back. and we need an inmediate rematch B-hop too old we can't wait around and even tho' I dislike the guy he sure deserves a rematch. I still have Dawson winning. Just saying he does deserve inmeadiate rematch.

It's sad that we are rewarding a pu$$y like Bernard Hopkins, a guy that doesn't deserve the belt. I'd say rematch but I wouldn't waste a single moment on this guy. Hopkins may of *****ed out and kept his trinket but he lost more money in the long run. Dude needs to leave the sport of boxing, it's better without him.

This ruling by the WBC is the equivalent of a disqualification for Chad Dawson. If they would have deemed the injury sustained by Bernard Hopkins, which subsequently caused the bout to be stopped; Was the result of an incidental or accidental contact, then they would have declared this title vacant and ordered a mandatory rematch. However, they didn't. They just simply returned their title back to Bernard Hopkins with no strings attached. Personally, I feel bad for Chad Dawson because Hopkins isn't under any obligation by the WBC sanctioning body, to grant him a rematch and he probably never will. It's very unfortunate because for all we know, he just might retire as the champ and then hold that sanctioning body's champion emeritus status, until he ever decides to box again like Vitali Klitschko.Last edited by champion4ever; 10-23-2011, 06:13 AM.

It is what it is. Every jurisdiction has its own independent rules and constitution. In this particular case, the WBC sanctioning body made its ruling but it doesn't necessarily have any bearing on the California State Athletic Commission independent rules and regulations either. It may very well uphold its original ruling, since both boxers had committed double infractions on that particular incident, thereby offsetting both fouls and rendering the contact incidental.

i watched the fight last night...i don't understand all the hate at hopkins.he was landing punches & dawson picked him off the ground & threw him down on his elbow.it cause a dislocation.this isn't MMA so it should be a no contest.there should be a rematch but not on PPV...
