I also agree that it seems silly to chuck him in with Martinez right now.

At least give him 12 months to develop against higher level opposition before you feed him to the wolves, and Martinez is right on top of his game, I would be waiting to see if he showed signs of slipping.

Lara has some serious skills, and is one of the better guys at 154-160. He whooped Williams, granted not as good as he use to be, but he did. I hope Priog fights Lara. If he were to beat Lara, it would elevate him to a fight with Martinez no doubt. On the other hand, if Lara were to beat Pirog, he would get deserve shots at Alvarez, Chavez Jr, and Martinez as well.

I think Lara can beat Pirog. Dmitry is good, not great. He had an even fight with Jacobs, his best win, and than caught him with that straight right. Lara is more skilled than Jabobs was and proved himself against a big time opponent in Williams.

Good fight, I think I have Pirog by decision. I think Lara is risking alot with this fight. Both have styles that could cause each other problems tho. I'd say its about 50/50 on who can win. I just think Pirog will come out the winner fight night. I'd expect a chess match type fight, not really action because both fighters are chess player type boxers. They will look for weaknesses throughout the fight that they can take advantage of.

With the lack of talent at 154 pounds right now, nobody wants to fight Lara so now poor Lara has to move up and fly to russia to get a significant fight.
I like the willingness of Lara but he should stay at 154. Maybe he could beat Pirog but on the long run he doesnt belong at 160.

Erislandy Lara is rapidly becoming one of my favorite fighters, he calls bull**** when he sees it, and is more than willing to back it up. Anyone, anywhere, anytime. I like Pirog as well, don't pull a Vanes, win, lose or draw its better than being looked at in that light. Let's make it happen, can't miss fight.

It is fkn absurd that Pirog is calling out Martinez, but even more absurd that some of the mindless fanboys who frequent this site are calling Sergio a coward for not rolling over for a green kid and fighting in some barn in Russia.

Lara is exactly who Pirog should be fighting.

It is absurd that Lara has faced better opposition that a green kid who is calling out the genuine MW king. I laugh my head off on this site some-days.

1) All three of you fail to note that one of the large criticisims of Martinez is that he's supposed to be the MW king yet is only willing to fight WW, JMW's, and sup par MW's like Barker or Lee. This is a jmw calling out a MW title holder. You saying that Lara is exactly who Pirog should be fighting says it all (a undersized JMW) no wonder you're such a huge Martinez supporter.

2) Lara should be calling out Bundrage, Baysangurov who have belts at JMW Dzinziruk when he isn't in training camp for a title defense (lol Lara is dumb) or WBO #1 Konecny.

Fight was @ 155 catchweight. That's middleweight. And Williams was a full fledged MW when he fought Lara. Even a downhill Williams is better than a downhill Jantuah and Jacobs.

But yeah, Lara is still jr middleweight sized himself, but he can probably handle most of the top middleweights even with the size disadvantage.

beating Andy Koelle doesn't make Williams a MW. Williams doesn't have a MW punch or chin and i suspect that he got his 'skills' by imitating Robert De niro after watching Raging Bull because a real boxing trainer sure as hell couldn't have taught him that **** he calls boxing.
