well didn't you bring up that the Mosley & Clottey bouts were boring? And it's only because both guys were way over matched
and it absolutely does matter how the boxing community views a big fight ... as how do you expect promoters to hype a fight 70% of hardcore fans don't expect to be competitive?
Bob Arum can get on TV and claim Mosley-Pacquiao is the biggest fight of the year and yada yada .. 50/50 fight
but taking into account Mosley getting dominated last year by Mayweather and coming off a draw vs Sergio is the above comment by Arum at all accurate? is the Mosley-Pacquiao match up going to be this awesome spectacle Arum is hyping and promoting it as?
absolutely not. Despite being on PPV, and the event supposed to be a big fight. Actuality is it's a big mismatch
anyway on Bradley he might of tried to make the fight vs Alexander, but it still didn't work out so great, maybe not all his fault but on paper at least
him vs Alexander was a good even match up, with 2 reasonably young undefeated champs in a unification bout going at it. The fight might not have been in the best location and Name wise Alexander isn't exactly household
but from a purely competitive stand point, Bradley-Alexander was a solid opponent choice. **I mean Tim Bradley gets lots of flack for lack of entertainment value and what not, but he's fought some tough guys and certainly isn't cherry picking
going forward is fighting an old Casamayor a good opponent choice?
As besides finally getting Tim on PPV, I really see it as a no win situation for Bradley
if he knocks him out or wins easy .. people will write it off at Tim taking on an easy past it opponent who's shot
where the other end of the extreme is if he struggles mightily vs the older Casamayor, it won't help his stock.
No the Diaz fight was bad bro, when the HBO announcers are pleading for the fight to stop, that's not exactly a good thing. Diaz was busted open by the end of the first round. Despite being a slug fest, even a mismatch can become boring to watch .. when it gets to that point of
"Okay finish the guy off already"
Well I remember the corner of Alexander saying something along the lines of "6 head clashes can't be accidental" and I tend to agree .. when does it get to a point where he's purposely leading with his head and these clashes aren't by accident.
as for Bradley and never getting a point deducted for throwing butts.. citing the ref not noticing or doing anything might not be the best example to use
since too often in boxing refs have shown themselves to be completely incompetent
hell look at the Dawson-Hopkins result, Hopkins was thrown to the canvas with a non boxing move, and the ref calls it a TKO. How someone can win a fight in that manner baffles me. If Dawson hurt Hopkins shoulder with a landed punch that's one thing .. but throwing him to the canvas, and him not being able to continue = TKO? uh okay.
and if that's the case, more guys should use the Dawson strategy, as throwing someone to the ground and hoping they land wrong and can't continue seems easy when compared to throwing punches.
