If anything, Martinez knows because of the Williams and Cintron decisions, not to fight in Russia. He fights here because of the big money. It is not so much that he would be robbed specifically in Russia, but could be. It is a gamble....more money there and chance of being robbed, or less money here and not. Pirog is not an American like Williams/Cintron where he was robbed, and is now a star so the odds of a bad decision against Pirog here are slim.

First of all that's not true. Macklin and Lee want to fight Sergio. Second of all what has Pirog accomplished that makes him so special??!!
He beat one prospect. That's the most impressive thing on his resume.
Macklin who was robbed against the Number 2 middleweight in the world, Felix Sturm, with that one fight alone is more accomplished than Pirog.
So if he can fight an elite fighter with an amazing resume like Barker, why wont he fight Pirog for a record purse?Comment

How many world title fights have been held in Russia? How can I give you an example when there is no boxing scene in Russia? Boxing events in Russia don't exist.Comment

Im still waiting on why Sergio would get robbed in Russia, even tho he got robbed twice in the US but still fights thereComment

And thats BS, they are held all the time.
Just because its pirog's "home town" isnt enough merit to say he'll get robbed.Comment

Why fight Pirog? What does Pirog bring to the table? He's ranked number 7 on the middle weight list, and there are other more accomplished fighters ahead of him.
Pirog is no superstar, the only people who know Pirog who are the 20 guys in this forum who support him.
So, why fight Pirog if Pirog brings nothing to the table that Macklin or Lee can't bring?
As far as record purse, they keep saying that, but what is the actual number? Is it 2 million, 3 million, 2 and half million. No one knows. And if I was Sergio's trainer I would not go to Russia for less than 4 million.
You might be in denial of it, or have not seen enough boxing, to know that when you fight in other country the odds of you winning a decision is low. It doesn't matter the country, it happens in all countries. Us, Germany, Great Britain, Japan, Australia, it happens everywhere. Russia would be no diffirent. Sergio would have a difficult time winning in Russia. And anyone who follows boxing closely knows this.Comment

I never said Pirog wasn't a good fighter, but I do think he is unproven.

And it seems by your train of thought, no fighter should EVER leave their home towns because they'll probably get robbedComment

And whos on Macklin's resume? He fought a good fight against Sturm but then again,
Why wont he fight Pirog for a record purse?Comment

There's a ton of fighters that have looked that way until they actually fought someone worth a damn. Looking good against C level fighters doesn't say anything.
Sturm was commonly seen as the best middleweight after Martinez. You're being too nonchalant about it. It's a big win (although technically a loss). Much much bigger than anything Pirog has ever done.
Because he can fight Macklin. Go tell Pirog to get a better promoter if he wants to put himself in a better position to fight Martinez. And this so called "record purse" is of dubious meaning. An extra 100k or so comes at the expense of missing an opportunity to build your name in America by actually fighting in America. Martinez wants to be a star in America, not in Russia.
Go tell Pirog to get a better promoter?Pirogs promoter is offering Sergio more money then his own promoter has EVER offered him:wank:
