No one in america knew who Dzinzuruk was and couldn't even pronounce his name correctly. Sure he was ranked high at 154 pounds but that certianly didn't give him any recognition and darren barker certainly didn't either.
Let me ask you - why are you against a pirog fight?
He's not going to get floyd.
He's not going to get pacquiao.
He's not going to get chavez jr.
He's not going to get Cotto.
He's unwilling to move up in weight.
So that leaves him Macklin, Andy Lee and maybe Rubio. Are you telling me those are better fights for Martinez to take? Will any of those guys give him recognition?
Is Macklin a star in the US? Nope.
Is Lee a star in the US? Nope.
Is Rubio a star in the US? Nope.
Do they have twitter, facebook and youtube accounts? Nope. Pirog does
Seriously though, Pirog at least has a belt and was on HBO and scored one of the best KO's in recent years. That's more than Mackin can say.
So, the ONLY reason he would fight the two irishmen is because they are dibella fighters. That's it. It's that simple. In house fighting. No different than Top Rank or Golden Boy which he was so critical about. Let's be real folks.
That's why I don't see why the obsession with Pirog. He's not more accomplished than any of these other fighters. He's in the same league as them.
But are there some people here who act as if Pirog is that can't misse fighter in the middle weight division. Based on what? He's no diffirentthatn Macklin or Sturm or the others.Comment

martinez's could offer pirog half million for a fight in the US and pirog will accept it in a heartbeatComment

You hit right on the head. Neither Pirog, Macklin, Sturm, or Lee are huge superstars nor fights anyone is clamoring for.

Now Pirog said he WANTS to fight him, for HIS biggest purse ever. But nahhh thats not good enough for Sergio. He'll just keep ducking Pirog and complain how everybody's ducking himComment

As far as Martinez's robbed fights in the US, yes, he was robbed, but he also wasn't middle weight champ at that time, and he wasn't as known at all when he fought those two guys. I am not saying he world famous now, but he is better known now and commanding bigger purses as well.Comment

I think alot of douches on here think these guys are gladiators from the Roman empire fighting for their lives and honor.
They're not, stop playing Dungeons and Dragons and realize that boxing is a business, and these fighters are trying to get rich. Boxers don't sign multi millionare contracts like other athletes do, boxers have to guide their careers carefully because if they don't, at the end of their career they'll be broke with dementia.
Fighting in Russia for less than 4 million is a dumb move. That is why Dibella put a 5 million dollar price tage on his fighter so these Russians will offer 4 million.

I can't give you too many exmaples from Russia becuase Russia barely has a boxing scene. But I remember a few years ago there was an againt Argentine fight named Vasquez who reports say was robbed against a Russian prospect.

So what you're saying is its ok for Sergio to fight were he got robbed more then once but its not ok to go to Russia where you cant even provide me an example of a robberyComment

Because none of the others will fight Sergio, and sergio keeps complaining how everybody is ducking him

He beat one prospect. That's the most impressive thing on his resume.
Macklin who was robbed against the Number 2 middleweight in the world, Felix Sturm, with that one fight alone is more accomplished than Pirog.Comment

Just to clarify I didn't use the word "robbed", but I do think he'd be right to worry about the judging if the fight were close. It happens all the time when fighting someone with hometown advantage.
Also, I'd like to see Pirog back in the US regardless of who he fights next. I can't understand why HBO hasn't had him back yet after his upset of JacobsComment
