Is anyone ever going provide any concrete argument why Pirog is any more meaningful than Macklin? Will Pirog fans continue to ignore Pirog's non-existant resume? Will Pirog fans continue to ignore that fighting in Russia is idiotic?

Even Sturm would be a tougher fight than Macklin. But he aint comin to fight Sergio.
Dude, I get what your saying. And I agree, however, I've always put alot of emphasis on accomplishments in boxing because there are no leagues or tournaments to determine who is the best fighter, it is determined by who you fight.

And Pirog, probably more dangerous than Macklin, but less accomplished, should maybe fight a top 5 middleweight fighter to prove his case, because beating a contender to me is not enough merit to demand a fight against the best middle weight in the world. Regardless of the skill.

And no, I didn't say a fighter, who is a champ by the way, should ever leave his hometown, what I am saying is that he should make sure he is compensated for taking that risk.

Do you know that in the 90's Roy Jones was offered about double the money he made on HBO to fight Germany's Dariusz Michalczewski in Germany?

Roy Jones turned it down because he was afraid of the decision he might get in Germany. It's not uncommon for fighters to turn down fighting in someone else's hometown.

Ask Caballero if he regrets going to Argentina and getting robbed blindley against Barros. I mean, I can give you tons of exmaples of champs getting robbed in someone elses country.
why dont those two reasons matter?

And Germany is a WAAAAY different story. No fighters should go over there because its almost a guaranteed robbery. And Caballero wasnt robbed, it was a close fight.

Examples of robberies in Russia would justify why he doesnt wanna go there, not other countries. And like i said, if Sergio is sooo afraid of getting robbed, he shouldnt be fighting in the US

Illdil - you cannot bring up popularity when comparing Pirog to Martinez. Martinez has been seen many times on major cable networks and everyone who watches boxing knows him and that is aside from his one of the all time great KO's of Williams. ANYONE who missed Pirog's KO, will not even know who he is. The exposure difference between the two is astonomical.

Amazing how people are jumping on Matt Macklin's bandwagon.

If this was any other siuation, he'd just be another Brit bum....seriously Macklin is tailor made for Sergio.

Well you've just said it, Pirog is the bigger threat. Therefore its the better fight. We should want the best fights.

So why'd he fight Barker then? Obviously the exposure difference there is astronomical X 10

I am not against Sergio fighting Pirog in the US or in Russia for that matter if the price is right. People have things all twisted on here.

All I am saying is that I believe that Pirog is an unproven fighter with great skills, but not popular enough or accompished enought for some people in this forum to exaggerate his stance in boxing.

It's not a must see fight, and it's not a fight that HAS to happen. It's simply another fight like a fight with Macklin, or Lee, or whomever.

In fact, the exposure difference, the popularity difference, the PFP rankings difference between Martinez and Pirog is light years apart. Martinez calls the shots against anyone unless the last name of the fighter ends in Mayweather or Pacquio.
