Don't forget guys Pirog has also offered to fight him in the US as well, the only thing with that is it would be funded by HBO, which would mean Martinez would get his normal $1.5 million he gets on HBO. So he can certainly fight Pirog in America on HBO and get his usual payday.
Of course, in DiBella's mind, why would he do that when he could get approximately $1.5 million fighting another DiBella fighter such as Macklin or Andy Lee and keep it in-house? that's the entire reason Pirog offered him a fight in Russia - a chance to make more money than fighting those guys.Last edited by ИATAS; 10-13-2011, 11:59 AM.Comment

Haha, I posted before that Sergio should only go to Russia for 4-5 million dollars. Dibella was thinking the same thing.
It's real obvious, if Sergio gets close to 2 mil on HBO, then he would need double that to risk his title in Russia where the only way Sergio wins is by knockout.
There is no way Sergio wins a decision in Russia. When you fight in your home country it is very difficult to lose a decision. It happens all the time. Just a few examples; Zbik vs Chavez, Barros vs Caballero, Mackilin vs Sturm, Matthyse vs Alexander and Judah, and I could probably give you plenty more if I could remember them, and these fights have been this year alone.
Sergio loses title in Russia if he doesn't knock Pirog out.Comment

I think alot of douches on here think these guys are gladiators from the Roman empire fighting for their lives and honor.
They're not, stop playing Dungeons and Dragons and realize that boxing is a business, and these fighters are trying to get rich. Boxers don't sign multi millionare contracts like other athletes do, boxers have to guide their careers carefully because if they don't, at the end of their career they'll be broke with dementia.
Fighting in Russia for less than 4 million is a dumb move. That is why Dibella put a 5 million dollar price tage on his fighter so these Russians will offer 4 million.Comment

If Martinez is gonna fight in the US against another middleweight, what possible reason is there to fight Pirog over Macklin? Macklin is rated #3 in ring magazine and can probably attract an Irish crowd, while Pirog is rated #7 and can't attract anyone. Especially because Macklin signed up with Dibella specifically because he wanted to fight Martinez, not fighting Macklin is probably more of a duck than not fighting Pirog. You can say that Pirog is that best middleweight all you want, but it doesn't mean **** until he tests himself against a real top middleweight. Pirog has yet to do fight anyone and all the Pirog fans continue to completely ignore this point.Last edited by DoktorSleepless; 10-13-2011, 12:11 PM.Comment

From what Sports Illustrated reported, it was for slightly more than Martinez has made recently but the fight has to be in Russia. I don't think it's wrong to turn that down. Fight in America or neutral territory for the current offer or make a substantially larger offer for Sergio to go to Russia. Personally I wouldn't want to fight in Russia period. I've never seen Pirog hurt and would worry about winning a decision there.Comment
