My assessment of Cotto would be that he is a 'too' intelligent fighter. He thinks about the next move so much that he never makes it. His chin is suspect. I've got to say that when I saw him as an amateur I thought he was the next best thing, but as a pro he has disappointed me. I thought that if he had turned pro as a lightweight and skipped the olympics he was the only lightweight that stood a chance at toppling Moselely. Now, I see him losing to Hatton or Mayweather, but he is still good enough to always keep some ABC's belt.

Mayweather was 20-0 and was fighting for a title.

Then Ubaldo Hernandez who lost to Vivian Harris by
a close decision in 12 rounds, 4 months later he lost to Miguel Cotto
      by KO in Round 7

then Rocky Martinez who lost a decision to Paul Spadafora
Scores: (94-97)..Rocky Martinez lost to Miguel Cotto by KO in Round 2

Cotto knocked out Carlos Maussa in round 9 (3 Knockdown rule)

then Victoriano Sosa who lost a decision to Floyd Mayweather Jr
the same guy lost to Miguel Cotto by TKO in Round 4

Kelson Pinto who convingly beat Emanuel Augustus lost to Miguel Cotto
      by TKO in Round 6

Then 2 time Light Welterweight Champion Randall Bailey lost to
Miguel Cotto by TKO in Round 6. Bailey had won WBA n WBO titles
      before.

DeMarcus Corley who got robbed against Zab Judah, But convincingly
lost to Mayweather, also lost to Miguel Cotto by TKO in Round 5

My favourite fighter is Floyd Mayweather from the start, and I think he fights Cotto Mayweathers handspeed would be fast, but first I was 100% sure Mayweather would easily beat him, now im about 70% sure...these accomplishments have taken my 30% off.. But im still sure Mayweather would win a decision or probably a late TKO against cotto.
noting cotto's last fight against torres, mayweather will easily beat him... cotto is still young...

Cotto is so overrated it isn't even funny. The dude has no chin whatsoever and he's going to get KO'ed as soon as he fights Mayweather or Hatton. I give Cotto zero shot against either of those guys, especially Mayweather. I used to think Cotto was going to be the man but seeing him rocked by Corley and nearly KO'ed by Torres, I must admit he was quite overrated. I'm ashamed I jumped on the bandwagon.

Once he corrects the left hook and realizes he has to use his boxing more he'll be alright. I can't believe how a lucky shot by Corley, who also hurt Mayweather and a bad fight against Torres can make people give up on him. I'll be here the day he beats Hatton and Mayweather, I bet you haters ashamed of yourselves won't post for 2 months.

Yep Mayweather was rocked by Corley! DO any of you remeber that? DO you remember that Jose Luis Castillo was robbed of his first fight with Mayweather(JLC was the obvious winner). But since PBF is still undefeated and has not been flawed in his last couple fights, you gies are protecting PBF. Every boxer has his day. Cotto is still young, he is 25 years old, PBF is 28 with 5 years more experience than Cotto. Give Cotto one more year and you gies will see that PBF cannot withstand the punch of a true welterwieght.

Both fighters are intelligent, one is faster one is more powerfull. It will be a great fight that we will hopefully see end of 06'.

let's not overlook how short notice an opponent torres was. if he even had an extra 2 weeks to prepare i honestly believe he would have won that fight.

i don't understand why people say cotto has a weak chin ??? who many ko or tko loses does he have ??....so he got rocked tell me a boxer that has never been rocked in his career , yes he has gotten knocked down but how many fighter also have ....1 st. off the punch that corley hit him with was right on the temple people say that corley does not have power but when you hit a guy with a shot in temple you don't need mike tyson strength to hurt him alot of guys would of been finished after that shot cotto survied the rnd. and stoped corley....against torres cotto fought a bit careless but torres had serious power and hit cotto with some flush shots that had bad intentions written all over them again alot of guys would not of been able to comeback from those type of shots cotto did and stoped torres .............cotto is a very good boxer he just needs to pick his spots when he decides to trade i still think he can beat hatton or castillo ....i do not think he can beat pbf roght now but i don't think anyone can so that is not a knock on cotto ...i know that he will prove all the haters wrong as well as the people that have jumped of the bandwagon ...

This is totally wrong for him, he needs to get back to counter-punching and then he will get back to his groove.

I still see something special in Cotto. He definetly has a CHAMPIONS heart.
Great post. The problem is that the casual fan just want to see ppl gettin ktfo...

Cotto has 0 losses with many significant opponents. He has been knocked down once and it was more like a push. You gies that are discrediting Cotto, do not know much about boxing. He is a well rounded fighter that is still young in his career. When Mayweather was younger he did not have the attention that Cotto does now. I am sure that if that was the case, many flaws would have been exposed. Cotto is learning, Mayweather is in his prime. THe difference is that we are watching Cotto learn while we are watching Mayweather at his best! Give the kid 4-5 more fights then Id like to hear what you gies have to say. Oh and dont forget, Mayweather really lost to Castillo. How many flaws were exposed then?

Torres had fought in Puerto Rico like 2 weeks before the Cotto fight, KO'ed his opponent in 2 rounds so he was as well trained as Cotto or better. Haters forget so quickly that Cotto was preparing to fight Giancula Branco, he never got a chance to make a fight plan and never got sparring partners with Torre's style, he knew little if anything about him, Cotto was in a huge disadvantage.
