The way it looked to me, Barker was chosen because Martinez is trying to develop a following to get a payday with Floyd or Manny. Thats why he dropped his hands the whole fight. Unfortunately he didnt make the statement he was intending because Barker didnt do half bad.

Barker in his 24th pro fight, fought Martinez.
Martinez in his 24th pro fight fought Javier Alejandro Blanco (at the time he had a 13-3-4 record, now hes 17-15-4).
I dont know why im even commenting in this thread, its just seems to be a bunch of fanboys who are arguing against the credibility of Barker. All im going to say is..keep an eye on Barker over his next few fights and then try to say Barker is a "bum".

Martinez has been taking legit fights, his last list of fights before Barker were legit fights.
But, the fact of the matter is, this fight was a cherry pick. An unacceptable cherry pick.
And it's being dismissed and is a blatent double standard.
I mean, Pacquaio's fight with Clottey was worthless IMO. But it sure as hell is a WAY better win than Barker is.

Now I'm hoping he faces Pirog, Strum, Macklin...either of those guys, or a top Jr MW.

I agree 100% with Steward, I never saw Barker's willingness to win. Which is why I can't give Barker much credit...
He knew exactly what he needed to do to win or the risks that need to be taken, and instead...he chose to stay in his shell.

If Carl Froch were to fight Paul Smith for his next fight it wouldn't be ok because his run has been so impressive. It doesn't make it ok because there is obvious better fights he could take.
The same applies for Martinez. He is at that level where he can pick and choose, he has pretty much never had that luxury. And now he has, he cherry picked a fighter who is unranked, unproven and had barely any experience above domestic level.
And that is simply unacceptable no matter what way you look at it.
And if Pacquaio is being critiszied for his recent opponents than Martinez should be held to that same standard for his last fight. Plain and simple.
Anything else is simply hypocritical.

Barker had absolute 100% confidence he was going to win. This was highlighted about 3 million times during the build up by Matchroom, Barkers camp, Spencer Oliver and Darren Barker himself. This couldn't have been made more apparent.
He simply got into the ring and was overwhelmed by a much better fighter like he was supposed to and couldn't find a way to win. Mainly, again, because he shouldn't have been in the ring in the first place.

Also, I don't really set high standards like that, if Froch decides to take on a light opponent after Ward...I'd be completely fine with that, he's had a tough run as it is.
