Then bottom line in the Foreman fight was that his style was tailor made for Cotto-fights off his backfoot, not a high workrate, relatively soft puncher, and Cotto could hurt him. Cotto would have beaten Foreman with his friend as his trainer.
Cotto fought Pacquio with his friend as his trainer and did ok for 4 rounds till he got careless.

Valero trained himself and look at how awesome he was.

      ****** move by Cotto.

When you lose, the main focus is to build confidence again and with Steward Cotto was doing that.

This new trainer might have a good rep but come on, he can't teach Cotto new things at this point now. He has to see what Cotto has and is and work from there and one training camp especially in a big fight isn't going to give you a good result.

Cottos my favorite fighter, but this move sets him backwards. Wish the best, but I'm not as confident anymore. Tis is some DLH ****. Switching trainers.

Im not really following you on the building confidence statement. He built confidence by fighting guys he was just better than. What Steward taught him isn't forgotten and maybe this new trainer can add some new little wrinkles to his game like Emanuel did.

What worries me is how long will it take for these two to get on the same page. In a perfect world they could have gotten a soft touch while they got used to each other.

The thing is Diaz teaches defense and to box behind a jab. It really not that much different than what Steward teaches. If Cotto hired ****m or Nacho then there would be some really hard adjustment periods.

Its not rocket science to see something like a guy having a weak left hand, or bad balance, or notice he drops his hands.

                Trainers=overrated.
Fighters pay trainers 10% of their purse or over a hundred thousand flat fee for motivation and pad holding?

Fighters aren't that dumb... They need trainers (teachers) to correct their mistakes and teach them how to correct it and ingrain it into their hardwiring, not just motivating and holding mitts. A member of their entourage can learn how to hold mitts and motivate (ala Buboy) instead of overpaying for just an experienced "motivator and mitt holder."

"A weak left hand, bad balance, and noticing he drops his hands" is beginners training. Graduate to foot placement, angles, and situational strategy.

That wasn't the point though: "Cotto was used to following laterally moving opponents around the ring; even though he'd win, he'd get hit tons in the process."

Urkal and Malignaggi lit his face up before those fights ended. The tactic Steward trained him for put him in the postition to not only beat him easily, but take little to no punishment in the process.

I was using those as brief examples. Strategy depends on the fight anyway. Foot placement, angles and "situational strategy" is just as easy to address as the 3 I mentioned.

                  Trainers are overrated.

Margarito is not getting a UD in New York. It will be impossible since Margarito has no defence and everything Cotto throws will hit him and get a huge reaction from the fans. Remember Cotto landed the clean effective punches the first time around and those are the ones that catch the eyes of the judges.

Margarito will have to go to war and that eye won't hold up.
