Cotto has look a lot slower ever since loss to Margarito, I have not seen any inprovement realy with Stewart. He was just fead a disable pillow puncher in the rabi, and a drunk punching bag in the form of a boxer in Mayorga.

Margarito by KO earlier than the first fight.
I think the point is that steward's focus is to control distance with the jab and movement and hold on the inside... something that cotto needs to do against marg, that's why steward is the perfect trainer for cotto against margo

People are really exaggerating on boxing coaches, one could think there are only 2 or 3 good ones out there - the ones everyone knows and everyone seemingly wants to train 100 boxers at the same time aka "he needs Roach/****m/Nacho/Mayweather/Steward..."
The credentials of Diaz are very good and on paper, he could very well be an upgrade from Manny and the fights against Foreman and Mayorga. All depends on how he works with Cotto and whether he can develop a gameplan that Miguel can implement in the ring.
I was unaware of this. Thanks for the information.

It is clear as day that Miguel Cotto has fear of Antonio Margarito from the catchweight all the way down to changing trainers during a big fight he is training for. We saw it happen with Manny Pacquiao. I think Emmanuel Steward probably demanded a lil more out of Cotto for this fight and Miguel didn't like it and decided to switch it up and do his own thing. To beat Margarito you need to keep him in the middle of the ring and have a jab to neutralize his aggression. Cotto cannot think he can out slug Margarito again. Paul Williams and Shane Mosley laid 2 different blue prints to beat Margarito. Pac did to but Manny is faster than Cotto and lil more ballsy in adversity. Cotto is going to lose again.

this raises a red flag. i interpit this to mean cotto didnt like being forced to train hard by stewart. so he got himself a "yes man" trainer that will kiss his ass.

hey and you guys that are hyped by pedro luis credentials. let me tell you. in the cuban educational system a masters is equal to a high school diploma in the states so no reason to play up this pedros I.Q.

Trainers aren't overrated, especially trainers who can draw up great gameplans.

Cotto fought a great fight against Yuri Foreman because of Emanuel Steward's gameplan. Cotto was used to following laterally moving opponents around the ring; even though he'd win, he'd get hit tons in the process. Against Foreman, he didn't follow him, he stood center ring, planted his left foot, and pivoted off it. Not chasing Foreman, but putting smart pressure on him, making Foreman come to him and timing him with jabs in the process.

Diaz seems as if he's a good boxing trainer from his training of Solis and Pascal, but he is going to have to teach, what Steward is great at, which is getting his fighter to breaking their opponents rhythm and lowering their punch output.

Cotto can't afford to make make too many tactical errors in this fight, he has trouble against stronger opponents as it is.

Like the guy said earlier there really isn't that much of a difference in Cotto pre or post Manny he is still virtually the same, Cotto is often very sluggish in training and doesn't really push himself from what I've seen.. I think Margarito may even train harder than Cotto.. I think the reason Cotto split with Emmanuel is money I'm pretty sure Manny doesn't come cheap and Cotto's had enough time go by to where he should be able to study the tape for himself an correct his own mistakes as obvious as they were, but unfortunately for Cotto I haven't seen him make any adjustments to guard against the uppercut which is Margs main asset...
