Cause he sometimes doesn't pay attention. He doesn't have that hawk eye.

Examples are Floyd vs Ortiz and Soto vs that one Dominican dude off the top of my head.

He did get too involved in the Mayweather-Hatton fight, he did screw Soto over against Lorenzo, he also called a K.D when Cayo was clearly hit behind the head against Maidana, maybe he's not the worse ref but I certainly wouldn't want him reffing big fights.

He is fair but firm and would make a great lover.

He was crap in the Hopkins/Calzaghe fight too and he was all over Maidana in the Khan fight to the point where I thought he was going to hit him.

Maybe he was a good ref decades ago but he's clearly abusing the rep he's built up to influence fights.

probably because he breaks so called clinches when one guy has arms free and is still hitting the other guy. probably because he favors the A-side in the fight. probably because he misses knockdowns, fouls, and generally doesn't seem to know what's happening during a fight. probably because he mumbles his instructions and is incoherent.

He breaks fighters up too quickly and too often. Example off the top of my head being Mayweather/Hatton. And he wasn't clear enough in his instructions in the Mayweather/Ortiz fight.

I will say this in favor of Cortez: He seems to knows when to stop the fight and when to let it continue and that is one of the most important qualities in a ref.
