If you are a huge fan of Floyd can you please enlighten to me as why you root for him with such passion?
Saw him at a Smith grocery store near my house when he was training for Marquez. Shook his hand, talked to him about his undercards for the fight and who Judah was gonna fight ( this is before they announced who his opponent was gonna be) etc etc...Called me a real boxing fan then shook my hand again. He's really different than on TV. I went back home to get my boxing gloves and drove back like crazy so he could sign them. He was at the produce section comparing bananas lmao. Anyways he signed it with no fuss. Funny though cause before he signed it he said " I'm not sure dude, I don't wanna get you boy angry" hinting that he knew i was Filipino and was refering to Pac.

Its crazy cause that same week on different days i came across Judah and Fernando Vargas at that same grocery store.

I think he comes across as a total **** who needs a humbling, but then I just don't know the person and he is probably a top friend if you know him well and vert generous because he shows a lot of signs he just wants to be loved.

As a boxer he is in another world, we are all witnessing a special talent we might not see again for a long time.

I'm not so interested in Floyd the person as I am in Floyd the boxer

Maybe "person" wasn't the best choice of words, but we do know that the guy has, for example, made racist comments. It's wrong whether he is putting up some fake persona or those are his real feelings.

Don't see why you can't understand what I'm driving at. Why root for a jerk when you don't have to? There are other talented fighters out there.

It isn't like rooting for a sports team, which is largely based on where you grow up.

I'm sure he does appreciate his fans and is generous to those close to him. It's just the man may be his own worst enemy. It's okay to gloat if you are great, but it doesn't mean you have to make racist comments about a potential opponent, levy gay slurs at others, or burn money.

If Floyd is just acting then surely he could have found a better balance

Floyd gets frustrated that others don't appreciate him, but I mean he really can put a lot of the blame on himself.

It is true that I do not know the man personally but there are things that the man has said and done which makes me not like the man.
He calles himself "money", he talks about how money is the only reason he is in fighting. That he doesn't care what people think of him as long as he keeps making money; blah blah blah. This is something I can understand a person coming from a very poor background might be proud of but he doesn't seem to realise that for a lot of poor people who are in neighbourhoods like where he grew up saying these kind of things does not appear aspirational but more like he is rubbing it in in there faces. Other boxers who have a social conscience are the ones I can involve a personal connection with, someone like Floyd who treats the sport as a business and flaunts money in peoples faces I find it easy to detest. But thats good for his publicity and his company, so it ends up feeding him financially regardless of how we feel about him. That is until he gets beaten, possibly by a boxer with a social conscience, hmmm if only there was another boxer from humble beginings but this one maybe looking after his people in any way he could, maybe even he has big political dreams. Ah, I can't think of one.

I dont know Floyd the person so I cant answer that, I just know his persona that he portrays on TV and the boxer in the ring.

None of us here, unless someone here is his friend or family, knows what he is really like as a person.

Put it this way, does everybody you work with know you as a person and know you personally like your family or friends know you? Could people at your job give an accurate description of what you are like as a person? Or do they only know a certain side of you, the side that you take to work to a professional environment where your goal is to make money?

I cant answer that question because I dont know him like that!

Only at certain points... Most of his post fight interviews show the real Floyd, and he's not bad....

He's far from my favorite person every though....

I think the Floyd that was aired during the Mayweather/Marquez fight was cool

i find it completely hilarious to see grown ass men be emotionally affected in a negative way by what this man does on TV. this dude works double to get his paycheck, can't knock a guy down for his showmanship. floyd mayweather comes to win.
