Hamed fought very good competion, but Roy outdoes him based on his two wins against Hopkins and Toney.

Im sorry, but no one and I mean NO ONE should bring up Woods as a quality win for Roy.

      hmm

Why? Just because Roy embarrassed him? So what?

Woods has good wins over Gonzalez, did land some decent shots on Roy, and also had two hard-fought close fights with Glen Johnson, who I think he'd beat if they fought again.

Woods was clearly underrated going into the Roy fight. Woods was a good win.

this whole thread is ******, all the guys you are talking about ie tyson, jones, golota, hamed were all championship caliber who turned out to be at least solid to very good fighters.. maybe hype surpassed their actualt skill, but it always does, and these are hardly the best cases.

the very first post - david reid - was by far the best example and i think the only one that really answered the question correctly.

i said richie melito, im sure some of you know who he was.... had a lot of his fights fixed and he didnt even know about it.... was 18-0 (17KO) classic great white hype promotion, italian guy from new york, built like a tank, hit like a truck.....then they matched him with bert cooper who knocked him out 1:50 into the first round, never returned to serious comp again and was out of boxing altogether 3 years later.

tito and dlh fought the best competion of any other fighters since the mid 90s and both are multiple weight div. champs so i don't know how they made it into your list ..

here is my list of guys that were really overhyped and did not live to the billing :
              panchito bojado
              ricardo williams
              michael grant
              camacho jr.

mike tyson. he was really impressive with his rare combination of power and speed, but the best fighters he beat were spinks and holmes.
