    Was it Sonny Liston?

I once watched a documentary, oh many years ago now about the most feared men in boxing & I am sure it was Sonny Liston who topped it.

Apparently when he was in & out of jail and feared so much he had to have police escorts for the publics protection at one point because they was that scared of him! One night a brawl broke out between him and 4 policeman with nightsticks/battons/koshes & he laid all 4 out & come out without a mark on him.

Bloody brilliant story even if not true or exaggerated, was it Liston & does anybody have a link to it or know the story in more detail?

Liston was feared because not only wasnt he afraid of any man, but he was also unafraid of their authority. Ingamar Johanson's manager insisted that if they saw Liston walking down the street that they would cross the road to avoid him. I think that statement says a lot about how feared he really was.

Pretty much anyone who ever fought Sonny Liston admitted be being scared to death of him.

          That includes Muhammad Ali.

Mike Tyson also admitted that if he were to ever see Sonny Liston he would instantly avoid him.

That's the kind of fear this man had toward him.
