His bodywork was better than in the past. He always used to head hunt. His defense is still terrible and he gets hit too much. Its frustrating because he can jab and set things up but he doesnt. He jumps in and then stays close wide open for an uppercut. His combinations were impressive at times. What he does when he is not punching is the biggest issue.
He looked OK, but a win is a win now let's move on to bigger and better fights. I enjoy watching Berto fight. He's got some quick heavy hands and is explosive.
Berto is Berto he will probably never have a real defense beyond clinching and is very reliant on his ability to hurt the other guy but has no clue how to really set up his best fire.
That said he still has positive qualities and he does know how to use them to his advantage enough to be hard to beat for everyone but really top shelf guys.
He's a lot better, guys. The short stocky Berto with the great uppercut knows how to fight on the inside. That's his only improvement but a BIG one for him. He still loses to Mayweather and Pacquiao, and still gets hit too much for a guy with a questionable chin. Big deal. The Berto that held for dear life on the inside and shoeshine wouldn't have even beaten Zaveck. So yes, improvement.
This performance wasn't as bad as everyone says. I don't think he really cared enough to be defensive because he didn't see Zaveck as a threat. I just wish Berto had a better trainer from the beginning of his career. He has great accuracy and speed, but absolutely nothing else to go with it. A better trainer would have taught him to use those properly, for example using his jab to set up shots.
berto is the new bradley, headbutting his way to wins.
i'm sure that after this fight he's not gonna touch a live target again with a stick. expect a line of washed up 140 pound zero hopers. bailey already lined up.
