from what I have been told Top Rank is and was aware of Cotto's teams offer to Margarito. Top Rank assured Margarito's team they would talk to the team and get this straightened out. It may not have come direct from Cotto (which I still believe he didn't care one way or the other) but it did come from his team

TR has groomed him from the start to be a star, with Margarito they got lucky he kept winning to put him in a spot where he could be champion and be a feasible opponent for Cotto down the road
