  • 1lb? ****in' pathetic.... i mean what's the ****in' point? what's the penalty for coming over that extra pound?

    • No reason for this, I think Cotto is capable of beating Margarito without a catchweight. His Team does seem a bit shook by pulling a ****** thing like this, but who knows perhaps it's a mind game like some suggest. At least the fight is on, that's what's important.

Cotto's team wants the fight closer to ww then jmw, plus a fight night weight cap.

Marg's team says i'll give 1 pound and if you don't like it go **** yourselves.

        Cotto's team agrees.

You can't make this **** up.
LOL this pretty much sums it up

This is by far the biggest joke of a catch weight I've ever seen in my life. Since when does the CHAMPION demand a catch weight?? WTF? P*ssy move by Team Cotto. Hope Miguel had nothing to do with this.

        • I doubt Cotto had anything to do with this at all. The brains behind this would fall into the lap of Steward. It probably went along the lines of.. Team Cotto: We want the fight at 150.. Team Cheato: Nah, we wont go any lower then 153.. Team Cotto: Ok deal, 153. On a side note, 1 pound DOES make a difference. It may not sound like it but when your cutting weight and have to cutt an extra pound it does take its toll on you.

It depends on the fighter, Marg made 150 for the Pac fight so i imagine he will make 153 with ease.

It's the only way that this negotiation makes sense, why else would Cotto agree to just a 1 pound catch-weight, unless it was all he was going to get without taking a chance at this fight falling apart. Cotto wants the Marg fight, in part because people don't want to see him take another easy match-up at jmw and they believe Marg will make for great action.

IMHO both these fighters want this fight because it's the only one out there that just might make them look as good as they did back in '08.

Nope...If you saw 24/7 Pac vs marg you will notice from episode 1 gradually until the 4th episode you could see margarito very weak & close up shots he looked damn dry & weight drained. People think that because margarito trains like a beast thats good for you, lol Even Ariza said on 24/7 after watching margo train in the 1st episode he looked like he peaked too early & we all know thats not good.

                • Wonder if a champ would ever agree to a very popular $$$ making challenger coming in 1 or 2 lbs over the limit before training camps begin? Cotto couldn't have had anything to do with this catch-weight negotiating btw. He's never done such a thing and you have to give him the benefit of the doubt until proven otherwise.

I must disagree, you want to see Marg sickly then check him out in the Mosley fight. Although he had to work for it, he made 150, and 153 isn't going to hurt him, considering that he trains to make 154. He looked good against Pac on fight night, he looked awful on fight night against Mosley.
