    Depends on how he lost.

If Ortiz clocks him and lays him out in the first, then that would affect his status
somewhat but not what he's accomplished to date.

Now if he lands like this on the canvas ...

... Then I'll knock him down 20 notches on the ATG list.

Losing a fight does not change what a fighter did before losing that fight. Floyd can lose to me by knockout two fights in a row and it wouldn't change what he's already done.

I hate when people hold a loss late in a fighter's career against them as if it erases the wins they already had.

If youre talking about current P4P rankings I could see your point. This thread is not about that though. Its about ATG and legacy. If I go by your logic then being undefeated is not overrated and is more important than anything else...

IDK!! It all depends on how Ortiz does after he beats Floyd. I think if he beat manny an Khan then that saids a lot about how good Ortiz really is. But all I know is that if Ortiz does win that will change the face of boxing and Ortiz will be the next Del La Hoya overnight.

If Mayweather were to lose to Ortiz but beat Martinez I would rank him higher than I rank him now.

The problem with Floyd's record he lacks the big names on his record especially above lightweight.

Losses are ok on the record but you need big wins to offset them.

And it matter who beats you as well and how they beat you.

Good point if Ortiz goes on to beat the likes of Pacquiao and Khan then it won't look so bad for Floyd.

But if Ortiz were to lose against a Bradley then it not looking too good for Floyd.
