Excellent post, John. I agree with everything you say. Some of these things I've seen/experienced for myself. Others I can easily envision. The conditioning aspect is huge. Most people are in terrible shape, even if they don't appear to be. A real fight takes up energy fast! Within thirty seconds an unconditioned person, no matter how skilled or tough they might be, will be at the mercy of a trained fighter.
Most people that have never boxed think getting punched in the head and body is easy. Sure, the pros make it look easy, but it's far, far from it. I'm not going to get into the futile argument about which fighting art is superior, but you can bet a trained fighter -- let alone a world champion -- is well equipped to smoke the "average guy".
