Gotdamn, this was an excellent post!Thats not a flaw... at all.
Aslong as a fighter is still standing it SHOULD go on.
It should not be stopped until the fighter is laying on the canvas and can't get up in 10 secs.
That's how they did in the old days, you know the times when boxing was at it's peak?
I wanna see fighters get knocked the **** out, not stopped because they're taking too much puishment. This is boxing ffs.
Let them continue until they're laying unconcsious or semi unconscious on the canvas I say.
Thank GOD, smoger doesn't stop fights early which is a bunch of nancy school girly fairy **** bull****.
Early stoppages is one of the reasons boxing is losing popularity.Comment

As a poster mentioned earlier Tony Weeks is pretty good aswell. If I was a boxer the top 3 refs I'd look at and hope to be our ref would be Weeks, Smoger, or Bayless. I can't think of any other big name refs that actually do as good as these three. And yes they might mess up something little but for the most part they're the better refs in the business.
Refs I hate are refs like the ref in Calzaghe/Manfredo. That had to be one of the worst stoppages ever. Calzaghe never connected anything hard enough to warrant a stoppage. British refs are generally bad and will stop fights even before they truly begin.Comment

yeah, who cares about the fighters getting brain damage and other permanent trouble with their health as long as people like you are entertained with a KOThats not a flaw... at all.

Thats the corners job to throw in the towel if they feel their fighter is taken too much punishment. Arreola's corner threw in the towel against Vitali.Comment

wrong
the man the closest to the action is the ref, hence he can and has to react real quick when needed, because nobody can act faster than him
some refs are too ******ed to stop the fight when it has to be stopped just as is the case with the corner, but the ref is supposed to be unbiased and look for the good of the fighters health and not anything else, while the corner may have their own reasons not to stop the fight, good or wrong
Briggs VS Vitali is a perfect and recent example : corner AND the ref too ******ed to stop a nonsensical massacre
Briggs said to his corner no matter what, don't stop it, and those idiots listened to him
it is the role of the ref to protect the fighters, his duty, periodComment

this is boxing not ballet dancing ffs
they know the risks, boxing was FINE 40, 50 and 60 years ago as far as stoppages go. They didn't stop it early like they do today.
early stoppages are ruining the sport, it turns casual fans away, it doesn't provide excitement and it's not enjoyable to watch. end of story.Comment
