I think there has been several times where Smoger has let a fighter take a bit more punishment than they should have. The most recent thing I can think of was Jones vs Lebedev. Jones was out on his feet and Smoger (due to some confusion) let Lebedev clock him hard.
Ref topic: Have Smoger or Bayless ever had an off night that you can remember?

It's not what you know, it's who you know.
Cortez knows just about everybody he's supposed to know, to stay on the job. He'll never get fired, he'll retire.
In fights he will be ref'ing, they should put him in the fight poster, because he is just as involved as the two fighters. Which is a bad thing.Comment

not reallyBut thats one of the reasons I like refs like Smoger and Bayless. They give the fighter every opportunity to win their fights. If the boxer wants a softer ref who will stop it sooner than they must go elsewhere. Smoger and Bayless know the term "One punch could change a fight".
Smoger lets fights continue when the outcome is obvious and a fighter is taking unecessary punishment
he's guilty of that almost everytime he works
other than that big flaw, he's a good refComment

Smoger messed up in not stepping in for Jones last Ko defeat. Bayless last mess up was calling Mosley's shove on Pacquiao a knockdown. Other than that, I can't recall much errors from them let alone an entire night. These two refs are the best around in my opinionComment

That's one of the reasons I like Smoger.
Not because the RJJ-Leb fight in specific.
But it's a good thing that he doesn't step in and stop it when the fighter is still on is feet. That's just silly and girly.
Smoger is old school. You think the refs in the 40's and 50's and earlier stopped fighters who was still standing? No way. And that was when boxing was at it's best.
I cringe when I see nancy girly **** who wants fights stopped because boo hoo the guy is taking too much punishment. This is boxing ffs not ballet dancing.Comment

Thats not a flaw... at all.
Aslong as a fighter is still standing it SHOULD go on.
It should not be stopped until the fighter is laying on the canvas and can't get up in 10 secs.
That's how they did in the old days, you know the times when boxing was at it's peak?
I wanna see fighters get knocked the **** out, not stopped because they're taking too much puishment. This is boxing ffs.
Let them continue until they're laying unconcsious or semi unconscious on the canvas I say.
Thank GOD, smoger doesn't stop fights early which is a bunch of nancy school girly fairy **** bull****.
Early stoppages is one of the reasons boxing is losing popularity.Comment

Exactly, these dude's crying about "punishment" when he didnt even go down. Go watch Amateur Boxing if you want to see ref's stop a fight after 2 punches to the face.Thats not a flaw... at all.

Steve Smoger and Kenny Bayless are best in the business.
They beat that ****** Joe "Attention Whore" Cortez anyday of the week, how did this idiot get inducted to the HOF? Must have gave every person with a ballot a big sloppy *cough cough rhymes with DJ*.
He is one of the worst Ref's of all time and proves yet again that Boxing HOF is just a popularity contest since there is a bunch of ******ed fighters/actors/ref's in there.Comment
