On a scale of 1-10 in terms of shot, with 1 being prime and 10 being Roy Jones, I'd say he is somewhere around 7. Closer to shot than prime, but still not as bad as it's made out to be. This is based on a very recent binge of watching nothing but Cotto fights.
That being said, he definitely isn't looking good and will probably lose the next time he fights a top fighter, IF he decides to fight one lol.Comment

i disagree. it took shane a full twelve to ko him.
he's not a welterweight anymore, and obviously age is a factor in speed.Speed ain't there like it used to be.
we'll by that same token, cotto's barely a jr middle.Mosley has always looked like crap at 154 except for the Vargas fight(who at the time was shot as well)
i don't think mayo's in his prime by any means but, shot? don't think so. i think cotto's best days are past him, but he's not shot either.
i really didn't like the fight when it was first announced but it wasn't a horrible choice.Comment

Brutalizes? Based on what performance? Cotto's had two fights at 154, neither of which were impressive. The Mayweather that fought DLH would whoop Cotto right now at 154. silly.Comment

That was kind of my point, that he wasn't fighting the way he WAS before Stewart got with him. You're completely wrong about the jab bit, its as effective as ever (it went away for a bit, but since manny came in, its been great against foreman and mayo). His footwork is tremendously improved aswell. I would like to see more body work from him, but he is doing just fine.
Even Stewart said it himself. I don't think Cotto is better than he was though, age and the battles he's had can't be fixed by Manny. Manny is a legend in the game but not even he can turn back the test of time.
He's boxing better and yes, used the jab better but I think people forget how good a prime Cotto was and how active he used to be. Against Mayorga he didn't look aggressive enough. A prime Cotto KO's that version of Mayorga in about 5-6 rounds.Comment

The Mayweather that fought DLH is like 4 years older, with less legs
It'd be a good competitive fight right now and I hope it happens after he sc****s by Ortiz. Yes, sc****s by.
On topic, it was a showcase fight, to continue to gel with Steward. At no point did he really press the fight and go for the KO. It was all about pacing. Of course on NSB, if you don't KO your opponent in 6, you're a bum, so what can you do?
Mayorga had maybe two rounds, highlighted by a 7th round, where he hit Cotto to the midsection, which clearly hurt him. Other than that, it was a complete domination.
And comparing Tito and Oscar? Two vastly different fighters from Cotto, both whom were much bigger than Cotto and had authentic KO power at 154. Doesn't make sense, comparing KO abilities and sizes of guys 5'11 to a guy who is 5'6. You guys are something elseComment

Cotto isn't shot. He is a little shopworn, because he has been getting hit hard throughout his career, but he is not shot at all.
I think people are failing to recognize that he just never was quite as good as people hoped. He fought handpicked opponents for a long time, got a few good wins, and lost twice to guys who beat him into submission.
People wanted a superstar, they tried grooming him for it. He was a good champion level fighter, but he always had big weaknesses.
Stylistically, I think he would have done well against Floyd, though.Comment
