Also Mosley like all great fighters had one last hurrah against margarito. His fights pre and post Marg prove that.

For Mayorga to be competitive against Cotto. Just shows how little bit Cotto has left.
Hey J, I don't think you can say Cotto is shot on that performance against Mayorga. You do remember he was inactive for what 10 or 11 months. He was always a hard nut to crack ask Tito !!!

I haven't seen it since it first aired, but Mayorga was NOT competitive in that fight. Outside of a few instances where Mayorga landed a lucky looping punch that stunned Cotto, was there any doubt at all who would be the winner of that fight?

Cotto was toying with him. If anything I think he was just following Steward's gameplan of boxing instead of slugging it out like the old days. Was he less active and seemed to lack the killer instinct he used to have? Sure. But shot? I don't think so. Past prime is the more accurate term. You want "shot to pieces," look no further than Roy Jones Jr.

            That's why he's shot.

Letting a 38 year old Mayorga put up a good fight against you, you're not that good of a fighter.

De La Hoya and Trinidad off their peak, knocked out a younger, stronger, fresher Ricardo Mayorga in 6-8 rounds respectively, back in 04-06, long time ago. If you're an elite fighter, you're not supposed to go 11 rounds with this version of Mayorga. That is why people also called Mosley shot and old, because he also took to long to take out a past prime Mayorga[which was in 2008, this is 2011 so imagine how much more faded Mayorga was], so they counted him out against Margarito.

I don't care if Cotto won every round and stopped him in the 12 round. I predicted a 6th round TKO for Cotto, and he took 6 more rounds to do it against that version of Mayorga, and let Mayorga have too many good moments in that fight. I thought Cotto was blow him out, like he was put there for. It wasn't supposed to be a competitive fight.

as for the mayorga fight, mayorga is always hard to put away and miguel hardly ever finishes his opponents early so it went as i expected.
              Is or you mean was?

When all you can do is equal what a 37 year old Shane Mosley did to Mayorga, 3 years later...you're seriously not that good. The Mosley KO12 over Mayorga was seen as Mosley looking like crap, but for Cotto it was an okay fight. Mosley also actually knocked out Mayorga with a punch..Mayorga retired himself with some BS excuse, but still, Cotto didn't get him out of there.

Not shot but past his prime for sure. I think he should retire soon.

How competitive was Mayorga really? Giving him the benefit of the doubt he won what....2 rounds?

Cotto was coming off a long layoff....and it was crystal clear he was working on some different things in there...he's obviously still getting adjusted to Steward.

And Cotto didn't get Mayorga out of there for two reasons....one, he was boxing more, which was obviously the gameplan, and two...let's face it, he's not that big of a puncher at 154.

It was not this "terrible" performance people on here make it out to be. He's not who he used to be...part of that is being a full weight class over what he should be(Mayorga probably outweighed him by 15lbs), part of it is wear and tear, and part of it is adjusting to a new trainer.

That being said...he is certainly on a steep decline...I'm just saying the Mayorga fight isn't really evidence of that.

Jusy by fighting Mayorga, I think that he was preparing for Margarito. I think his team picked Mayorga because he & Margarito resemble each other physically & while people might believe that Margarito is better than Mayorga, i'm not sold on that. Cotto's claim is that he was fighting injured for years, I guess we'll see in december.
