One of the main reasons I think MMA in general is thriving is because they're not following the current model of Boxing. I can't go anywhere without hearing in some fashion that "Boxing is dead" or "Boxers are scared to fight one another these days" when anything having to do with a comparison to Boxing and MMA is presented. One factor I love about the UFC is that there is 1 clear champion in each division, not 4 different champions who can't defend their title against option A. because option B. is the mandatory and if you don't fight option B, you'll be stripped. In UFC's model, you beat the champion, your next title defense is against either #1 or #2 guy in the division, which in turn really shows the merit of the title holder if they're holding the belts for sometime (ala GSP and Anderson Silva). Also, now that Boxing is beginning to add much better undercards, you don't think that has anything to do with how the UFC handles their PPVs? They have at least 3-4 quality match ups with relevant fighters who are well known in UFC / MMA, which in turns helps sell the PPV instead of just one big headliner (which Boxing is missing a lot these days).

Boxing to me is a sport I never see dying, but there's no question it needs a huge boost in creating new avenues to promote and broadening the Boxing brand across the board. The best thing Boxing's done in the last few years is it's approach to viral media, and to be honest, a lot of us have been helping keep Boxing going. How else do casual people know the terms "*****" and "*******"? LOL how about taking that same energy and doing something to help elevate the sport??

good point about the one champ per division....

i think more tournaments would really help boxing....

      plus....

if boxing is dead? how the hell do wleterweights like may and pac make 20 mill fighting bums...

there is definatly a demand for it!

it jsut needs a better buisness model....

i saw an interview with one of the fertitia bros. (zuffa owner) and he was talking about how allot of the way they market things comes from how the WWE sells PPV....

      better advertisments etc....

also the ufc does good pre fight inteviews so u get to know the fighters a little...

Fights like Rios/Antillon belonged on network television. Entertain the casual fans. Fighters like Cris Arreola belong on network television. Entertain the casual fans. One-sided fights like Khan/Judah belong on network television. Introduce casual fans to potential superstars like Amir Khan.

Everything else is fine where it is.

            I agree with this.

ABC Wide World of Sports back in the day used to air these type of fights that we would now see on Boxing After Dark or ShowBox. These guys got network coverage and a good amount of those guys became stars and or top trainers in the sport. IMO, this would help the PPV business in the sense of gaining more exposure for someone like a Brandon Rios, who is exciting to watch, but only known through Boxing circles. How many people in say a year are going to run to buy a Brandon Rios PPV fight that doesn't have the names "Mayweather, Pacquiao or Cotto" next to them?

Quit bringing up Dana White or the UFC. Boxing is far too big to be ran like the UFC. How many fighters are even in that ****? Like 12 a division and like 5 or 6 divisions? The talent pool is small.
