No, he isn't overrated. He ruined 4 careers so far. Bunema, Pavlik, Williams, and Cintron. It remains to be seen if he did permanent damage to Dzinziruk as well, I hope he didn't end his career too.

He is dominating these guys who most people though he had little chance against. Beyond that, he never even fought as an amateur and started his career at an age when most dudes have numerous pro fights under their belts as well as a wealth of am experience.

The simple fact that he has people hating on him means that he is not only good but elite.

Its sad when you are a MW trying to fight small WWs who are more like JWWs!!!

MArtinez is a hipocrit, and a cherry picker!

Cotto even if he loses to MArtinez makes him piss blood for a week or two!
That must be why he CHOSE to fight another undefeated guy with a belt then huh? Another BIGGER MW........not a WW- better than beating up on an old Mayorga I guess.

anyone who gets millions of dollars to beat up tomato cans is overrated. instead of fighting someone dangerous like pirog he is going to look spectacular against barker and people will say sergio is p4p #1! it's so easy to trick the pea brained boxing fans.

***** please. Pirog poses no more of a threat to Martinez than Barker does. Martinez shouldn't even waste his time with the garbage littered all around @ 160.

What Martinez should do is move back down to 154 and clean out the division, which would put pressure on Cotto to make a fight with Martinez (or get scared back down to 147). And if a Cotto-Martinez fight does go down and Martinez crushes Cotto in spectacular fashion, he finally would garner mainstream media attention which would help to increase the likelihood of a Mayweather/Pacquiao vs Martinez fight, which is the fight(s) we all should want to see.

Do I think we, as boxing fans, overrate him on here? Yes we immensely overrate him. P4P rankings are probably the most worthless rating in boxing..."if this guy fought this guy at this weight"...all a boxer can do is fight the guys put in front of him and in surrounding divisions.

P4P Rankings are the most worthless criteria for any sport in any sport....If Barry Sanders were 6'4" could he be better than Peyton Manning at QB?....If Jordan were 6'11" would he be a better center than Wilt?...it is all subjective and yeah it is fun to discuss, but being P4P anything is pretty much useless. I bet Pongsaklek Wongjongkam wishes his P4P rating could get him Klitschko money.

I am from Argentina, and I think that he is good but no special. In my opinion he is a top 10 P4P with a lot of prospects that will be better in a few years.

Pacquiao, Mayweather, Marquez, Donaire, Ward, Hopkins, K Brothers, Haye are better than Martinez.
In my opinion Martinez is the best MW, but he dont fight against Pirog, Golovkin and Korobov who are the best in the division, Pacquiao and Mayweather are WW and he dont want to move up to SMW, so why he is top 3 or 5 P4P???
