    vacant EBU (European) middleweight title

    A belt is a belt......won 23 (KO 14) + lost 0 (KO 0) + drawn 0 = 23, KO% = 61%
He would also murder Pirog and Golovkin....he is far superior to all three guys

      Martinez overrated? absolutely

Martinez is talented without a doubt, BUT his achievements are overrated such as his win over Pavlik. Pavlik has not been the same fighter he once was since hokpins laid an ass whoopin on him and yet he still dropped martinez and didnt show a bad account of himself either. Paul Williams got EXPOSED by quintana over 12 rds!! and dzinziruk PLEASE!!! and now englands Darren Barker?!! what the hell?!! what happened to DMITRY PIROG or moving up to face froch, bute, dirrell, ward????

Please note he deserves much credit for fighting those put in front of him. But people he is nowhere near P4P TOP 5.
I feel P4P is being passed around far too much and too often like a cheap hooker a bit like the belts.

What Martinez should do is move back down to 154 and clean out the division, which would put pressure on Cotto to make a fight with Martinez (or get scared back down to 147). And if a Cotto-Martinez fight does go down and Martinez crushes Cotto in spectacular fashion, he finally would garner mainstream media attention which would help to increase the likelihood of a Mayweather/Pacquiao vs Martinez fight, which is the fight(s) we all should want to see.
if they are the same threat level then why doesn't martinez fight the guy who's ranked in the top 10, has been on hbo before and has a belt instead of the unknown dude? and on top of things pirog will probably fight for cheap and martinez can take a big slice of the pie. pirog fought jacobs for 50k and martienz paid dzinzurk 800k just to beat him up!

MArtinez is a hipocrit, and a cherry picker!

Cotto even if he loses to MArtinez makes him piss blood for a week or two!
Cotto vs Martinez, they both can make 154, it's a fact so lets get it on NOW!!!!!

                  bull **** hes overated
                  hes more than prooven himself
                  my #3p4p fighter
He's overrated because he's got 2 noteworthy wins in his entire career.

The man has 51 fights and only 2 wins worth talking about.

WTF is wrong with your brain? This isn't MMA. In boxing, you have to reign on top against top opposition before you can be considered the king of the hill in and around your division.

Sergio Martinez has not done that. Many boxers who are being hailed as the #1 this and that have absolutely no longevity. How are you the #1 anything when you have 2 good wins in your career?

That's the real problem in boxing. There's too much "gray" area. It used to be that everyone knew who the champion was. Now, there are 4 different major world champions in each division plus the Ring Magazine champion. Its a mess. Then when you add all the P4P talk to the discussion it gets even worse.

The best is simply the guy with the best record against the best competition and the longevity he was able to maintain at the top. No more. No less. Its ALWAYS been that way. That's why Ray Robinson was and is the G.O.A.T.

Today's boxing is littered with MMA fans who think that each fight a boxer wins is a career defining moment that catapults then into the top three P4P spots. Its ****** and ridiculous ... and worse it devalues the true great efforts of those who take on top ranked challenges.

I like Sergio. I like Pacquiao too. What I don't like is the way so-called fans lie about the real value of their accomplishments. *******s say that because Manny fought five 5th ranked WWs and one 4th ranked WW that he's the #1 WW.

How in the world does that math make sense?

Its that kind of fictitious bull**** that ruins the sport.

Its fine to admire and root for a fighter. To lie and exaggerate for them is another story. Why not let their records speak for themselves? Why not simply look at the rank and quality of their opponents to see how valuable the wins that they have are?

The best don't need exaggeration. They don't need the approval of pundits for them to reign on top. They don't have to play the games that promoters make them play. They are dominant, and they have been dominant all of their career.

Sergio Martinez has been hiding out in South America for quite some time. He could have come to America if he wanted to step it up. He didn't until much later. When he did, he got knocked out by Antonio Margarito.

And who did Sergio beat to make a claim for top P4P?

Kelly Pavlik, who was on the precipice of retirement because he fell apart after his loss to Hopkins.

                  -and-

Paul Williams, who had been exposed way back in his fight with Carlos Quintana. Williams was a sucker for an overhand left and still remains that way until this day. We all saw that against Lara.

So before you go hailing Sergio Martinez as the next Julio Cesar Chavez, do some research first.

He is dominating these guys who most people though he had little chance against. Beyond that, he never even fought as an amateur and started his career at an age when most dudes have numerous pro fights under their belts as well as a wealth of am experience.

The simple fact that he has people hating on him means that he is not only good but elite.
I'll give you Bunema and Williams. But how exactly did he ruin Pavlik and Cintron? Pavlik was already ruined when Martinez fought him and Cintron would actually have to be considered "very good" before he could be ruined. If anything Margs ruined Cintron. You sir are reaching.

ANyone who becomes a name suddenly, and then becomes p4pn3 is overated. Because that means hes got his p4p status on the basis of a couple of performances, unlike Pac, or Floyd who have been around for years. Sergio is the IN thing at the moment.

If he loses his next fight, people would say yes he was given credit prematurely. Whereas if Pac loses, people can say hes been at the top so long, of course there would be a time he would have to lose. But having said that Pac haters would say i told you Pac was overated if he loses his next fight.

Even though Pac has been around for donkeys years doing it.
