I'd still feel the same. I don't like people thinking Ortiz is some young, prime, monster who will rule the welterweight division based on the Berto fight. Ortiz was good, but he wasn't that good against Berto, and I never thought Berto was that good either. Ortiz more showed Berto was never on that level than he showed he was on an elite level himself.

To be fair, I don't want to come across like I don't like Ortiz. He's young, incredibly talented, and if he has the potential to be a very good fighter. People are just putting him at a level he hasn't proved himself to be at yet.
Again, I feel you. Excellent post. I guess what i'm trying to say is that it's a lot easier to fall from the top then it is to climb back up. ortiz was considered one of the best young prospects going into the Maidana fight and now has to earn that title again the hard way, maybe it helped make him a better fighter, at the very least i hope he's learned not to go in there and try to **** wth a ****er.

Very true, boxing fans are way too hard on young fighters, which is a big reason youth and undefeated records have become so overrated. It really isn't fair that one loss makes people think a fighter is a total bum. Hype with young fighters is way out of hand, people declare them on levels they don't belong on way too early. That's why Ortiz went from the next Oscar and the next p4p king to a bum, because people feel letdown for some reason when young fighters lose.

Very few don't lose, and Ortiz lost to a good fighter, a real tough fighter that exposes many. He has plenty of time to still become a very good or great fighter, I wish people would let him rather than make rash judgments after every single fight.

I think he is overrated tbh,and mostly by Mayweather fans nowa days..Ortiz is a good fighter, but guy's try to make it seem like he is so dangerous when dude can't box and his heart is still questionable imo..Peterson outboxed him and beat him imo Maidana destroyed him and he lost early in his career as well..Kid is a good fighter who will always make for a good fight, but there is nothing special about him imo..

Definitely not underrated, maybe slightly overrated...maybe....the Berto fight was an impressive victory in some eyes but in the eyes of a techinal genius, it was a dodged bullet. Any technically, defensively sound fighter would have picked some of that wild punching apart by precise counter punching.

Before fighting Berto, we have to remember this guy's heart and desire was questionable...and he didnt look great against the more elite fighters. I think we are still high off the Fight of the Year and have forgotten his past.

I'm not doubting that this guy has a ton of power in both fists but his skill and heart are questionable at times. Despite being a pure puncher, the Mayweather fight might be biting off more than he can chew.

Berto isn't some high ranking guy in his weight class... he was there by default. He had a life and death struggle to get past his only real test in his career in Collazo. He had been sugar fed scraps... No one thought that Berto was an elite guy. A good fighter... yes... but in the big picture it is disengenous to say he was highly ranked compared to other fighters.

I do think he(Ortiz) made up his shortcomings with his fight vs Berto, but I don't think he has the tools to even bother Floyd. He lacks a jab and I don't think he can pressure himself to the extent that Floyd would get bothered.

Maybe he quit because he was getting destroyed?

He's not overrated. He's a young guy people were excited about before he lost to Maidana. Everyone was hoping to see him come back, and when he did so in exciting fashion vs Berto, people were high off the performance. He's a good fighter and recognized as such. but at the same time, everyone knows Berto was nothing special.
