For Roy Sr. and Merkerson or w/e, they aren't really good "trainers." Roy has no defence, and the most awkwards style ever. He was great because of inhuman reflexes, not because of his technical boxing skills.

Different trainers are good for different trainers. I dont know how to rate the best trainer of all time. Of current trainers I like Freddie Roach.

I always considered Naz to be overrated, and always hated him, and his Dumbo-like ears.

Ye, Big Roy started out Roy Jr., Vince Phillips, Arthur June Big Williams and Smoke Gainer, all world champs. I have trained with Big Roy and he has one of the best boxing minds I have ever come across.

I'm going to go with Freddie Roach or Cus D'Amato. Why D'Amato you ask? Because without him Mike Tyson wouldn't have been built into the monster he was ( fighter wise, not as a person, heh ). I firmly believe that if Cus D'Amato would have lived up to this point, Mike Tyson would have been the greatest Heavyweight Champion of all time. Just my opinion though so all you Mike Tyson haters please try not to get your panties in a bunch, eh?

Freddia Roach on the other hand is just a really good coach. He never focuses on one thing, rather balances out his fighters. I like that. Why focus on just one thing when you can teach them to be prepared for anything?

There's quite a few more, but as someone said before me, every one of them has their strenghths and weaknesses. The above two are just my personal favorites.

I just wonder sometimes what certain top trainers actually do in the gym. Many of youmight not realize this but some of the guys you call GREAT TRAINERS dont even really work with the fighters you see them in the corner with until the week of the fight

Well I know for a fact Cus D'Amato wasn't one of the ones that only saw their fighters in the corner during the fight. He obtained legal guardianship and took Tyson in as his own. Training and being a father figure to him. That's how I differenciate a good trainer form a great trainer. One who truly cares for their fighter, not just uses him as a steeping stone or a few easy paydays.

MOST of the best trainers were awful fighters in their day. Mediocre at best. Todays most horrendous fighter will make an award winning trainer in the future.
