Thats not true, Emanuel Steward was an excellent fighter, Steward was able to compile a record of 95 wins and 3 losses as an amateur boxer, and he won many tournaments, including the 1963 national Golden Gloves tournament.

Not only he was an excellent fighter in the 80's he started training fighters and became a boxing trainer.

Emanuel Steward has trained/ is training good fighters like:

    Thomas Hearns
    Mike McCallum
    Michael Moorer
    Gerald McClellan
    Evander Holyfield
    Julio Cesar Chavez
    Lennox Lewis
    Oscar De La Hoya
    Wladimir Klitschko

In regard to guys like Steward... while he did win the nationals in 1963 his record as an amateur is basically what he says it is. There is no way to verify a record from back then and I am sure he was very good etc but 95-3 as an AMATEUR? I highly doubt it. Also, you CANNOT give him credit for Delahoya, McCallum etc etc......it is not even realistic to include them in the list of "guys he has trained."

I dont there is anyway for a fan to watch guys on TV and tell who is the best trainer from that? WHAT makes a good trainer? WHAT do they do that makes them great, these guys you name? Eddie Futch? I am sure the man was good but you guys that name him as a great trainer, what is your reason for doing so other than just as common thinking and belief that he was? What aspects of his training is good? Do you know?

PS-Just as a tip, don't confuse a good CORNERMAN with being a good TRAINER. There is a huge difference there.

I think your dead on Ice!

Advice in a corner and the actual training/preparation for a fight are compltely different, or at least thats always been my assumption.

Who knows how manny Steward or Eddie Futch handle a fighter leading up to a big fight, who knows what they work on.

All we have to judge them on is what they say and I will say this...in the last couple of years the best work I have seen in a corner was done by both Buddy McGirt and Orlando Cuellar in Tarver/Johnson 2, they rode their fighters like racehorses down the stretch of that fight and I think they played a major role in making that fight enjoyable to watch because of the way they talked to their fighters.

I wish more trainers would tell it exactly like it is!
